Horror in the Wind (2008)
Parody Sci Fi Adventure
I was in a school meeting with this woman, interviewing for a job as a teacher, and she had to postpone our interview because she was so engrossed in telling her friend this story. The story was of the most hilarious movie she had ever seen. She was laughing so hard I thought she was going to choke. She went on and on about "Horror in the Wind" so I bought the DVD and yes, she was right. The kids had to be left out because there is a lot of sex in it. Funny sex. My wife and I watched it in our room and snickered til the end. It's a highly unlikely futuristic sci fi comedy but fun. Religious fanatics (Pat Robertson) win the white house and fund research to put an end to sex but it goes haywire. I guess they got what they deserved.
Grindhouse (2007)
A Stylish, Pornographic Fascination with Violence
I gave this a one for style. It's got lots of style but for no reason. I always imagine Tarantino masturbating to graphic violence. He seems to have a pornographic fascination with violence. This is really porno for violence lovers but with a lot of skill and style. But what's the point? Homage to violence? If he did with sex what he does with violence he wouldn't be able to get his films made. Says a lot about America. It's okay to kill someone but not okay to make love. People let their kids watch movies with tons of violence in them but wouldn't dream of letting the kids watch sex in a film. I was able to watch this movie all the way through because I used the fast forward button frequently.
Seeing Other People (2004)
Very funny and smart
I loved this movie. It's a lot of laughs. The acting is good and the writing is really sharp. I'd rather see a hundred movies like this than THREE LORD OF THE RINGS repeating and repeating themselves.
It's a low budget affair and seems to be shot on DV but looks good and Jay Mohr and Julianne Nicholson are great together. Why do you have a ten line minimum? I'm not a critic, just a patron.
I doubt very much that Quentin Tarantino could write a picture this funny without filling it with masturbatory gratuitous violence. This movie should be seen on more screens than just one. I laughed from beginning to end. >
