What Did Clyde Hide? (2020)
What a cast!
These 17 actors really look like they're having a blast. It's so lovely to see such a thing especially in the times we are living. The ensemble does really joyous work and it shows.
Range Runners (2019)
You can cut the tension with a knife
Range Runners is a terrific film that is lead by a great performance by Celeste Cooper. The cinematography is beautiful and the tension is palpable. This movie is one hell of a ride.
Contrite (2013)
Which way down the rabbit hole?
Contrite-adjective-feeling or expressing remorse or penitence;affected by guilt This is exactly what this film is about, affected by guilt. Shannon Brown stars as Ryan Phillips in this little drama from Two 9 Productions. it is directed by Andrew R. Cintron. Without giving too much away, Ryan has lost a lot in his life and doesn't quite no where to turn so he turns to the quick fix which just leads him down another rabbit hole. Can he find redemption or even happiness? This is part of the story's unevenness. We see the tale of the man and how he tries to cope and how he tries to turn himself around but it feels a little confusing towards the end. Brown's performance has a nice slow burn to it, you really do truly feel for this man. Though I wanted a scene or two to show his other side to give Brown's character a little more range. Michelle Mueller plays his wife Susan Phillips. She is radiant on screen and has a very nice understated performance. I think Cintron has some talent. It's raw and he needs some more seasoning but you can see he has a point of view even if it's a bit foggy at times. This is a very powerful story and also a tad formulaic, The editing and sound needs a little cleaning up but its nice little heavy duty short.
Windy (2012)
A fresh breath of Windy though it may have run out of breath
Shannon Brown is really good as the title character in the film short Windy. Playing a role such as this could come off as trying too hard but he really handles the role nicely. He is one of the cornerstones in the Chicago film scene and you can see why here. The story is original and I really like what Matt Brassil does with the piece but I felt the ending was confusing and didn't really fit with the rest of the movie. Gail Harfar is also really good in the piece as well. She handles the role with aplomb. Suzette Brown has a nice supporting turn as well. Rounded out by David McNulty, Windy has a really nice feel to it. Take out the strange ending and this is a really great piece. Brassil really knows how to put a film together. I hope to see more of what he and Two 9 productions have to offer. I think Two 9 has a really great shot to become one of the great Chicago Indie production houses around.
