The Gray Man (2022)
Enjoyable, exciting and visually impressive
Enjoyable, exciting and visually impressive... but not an amazing plot or script. Worth watching for Gosling and de Armas who do a great job to make something of it all.
Code 8 (2019)
Gritty. Interesting.
Ignore the bad reviews and notice all the good ones. This is a really good movie.
It isn't the traditional Hollywood set piece, so it hasn't pleased the masses. It uses 'powers' to bring us a different perspective on poverty and crime. It's worth a watch if you watch the detail.
Close (2019)
Great leads, but pitiful bad guys
There are some great moments, particularly Noomi Rapace's impactful action scenes, but the bad guys lack, well, everything.
And, some weird scenes... (what's with the killer fish?).
So, it often looses momentum and, in the end, the film doesn't get as far as it could.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Watch it again, choose different paths and look carefully... you're the one in control.
I was so captured by this film I rewatched it multiple times to find as many twists, turns, Easter Eggs and endings as I possibly could.
The billed 98 minutes of passive entertainment became more than 180 of active interaction. It is awesome! Like a game but somehow different. Engaging concepts that are deeply emotional. I really care about making the right choice for each character and struggle to choose the 'wrong' ones when I know that disaster might follow...
It is about parallel universes, so there is a scientific beauty in the 'minor' differences that make each one unique.
Watch it again, choose different paths and look carefully... you're the one in control.
Tau (2018)
I really enjoyed it!
I don't agree with the negative reviews. Strong lead, quirky plot, good visuals, interesting scenario, exciting tension. It was similar to other films within the AI genre, but different enough to be unpredictable. I'd definitely recommend it. Watch it thinking it is going to be bad, and I think you'll really enjoy it!
Kill Command (2016)
Impressive
Much better than you'd expect from a film with such a small budget. Excellent visual effects, captivating cinematography, engaging locations, nice tension throughout and great acting by a great cast. Only really let down by the derivative script and ending. So still definitely worth watching!
