Fantastic horror/comedy indie
14 February 2020
Hands down one of the best indie horror comedies I've seen. Everything from the acting to the camera work to the effects are well done. The characters were likable, the pacing was fast, it had me laughing throughout and the final act was drenched in gore. It was everything I wanted in a horror/comedy.

Highly recommended.

Fun sequel
14 October 2018
The original Goosebumps movie took me by surprise when it came out in 2015. It had fun likable characters and a great villain in Slappy the evil dummy.

Fast forward 3 years and here's the sequel. 99% of the cast from the original is missing and the new characters aren't as interesting. They're serviceable but kind of forgettable. The story is also not as well paced as the original and is too fast for its own good coming in as a little too short. It needed about another 10 minutes or so in its last act.

But I can't hate it because it's still a lot of fun. Once again Slappy steals the show and there's some surprisingly creepy scenes involving him early on in the movie. The other Goosebumps monsters are fun too and the halloween setting puts a smile on my face. I also really dug the musical score by Dominic Lewis.

If you have kids I highly recommend taking them to this one. Although there might be a few scenes too scary for the younger ones it's the perfect horror movie for them to watch during the Halloween season.

Buy a ticket, some popcorn and a soda and have fun.

An insane reboot.
20 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
When this was announced I didn't really think much about it. The series hasn't had a solid film since Puppet Master 5 in 1994. But than the reviews popped up online earlier this year and my interest went from low to extremely high. Is it as insane and fun as most reviews say?

Hell yeah! This is the craziest movie of the year for me and it gave the franchise the shot in the arm it needed. I like Charles Band. I owe my childhood to him but Full Moon is crap these days. His focus is pimping out his merch and making non-stop Evil Bong films.

The filmmakers of this wanted to give us a bloody thrill ride and delivered. The Littlest Reich is offensive, mean spirited and crazy. It feels like a Puppet Master made by Troma. Every single kill is drenched in so much blood it makes the Full Moon ones feel PG-13.

The puppets are a mix of old and new and certain old ones have multiple versions. The only downside is because there's so many puppets certain ones get very little screen time. I wanted more tunneler!

The main cast is great with some fun likable characters such as Cuddly Bear (who deserves his own spin off film) Most of the supporting characters have no development and only exist to be brutally murdered but I didn't go into this wanting to know the back story of two stoners and a jewish couple. I wanted puppet mayhem and got it.

The only real downside for me is the anit-climatic finale. The movie ends with a big "To Be Continued" on the screen and I let out a sigh. A prequel is in the works but I rather have a sequel first. It didn't hurt the movie that badly but it did slightly affect my score.

Fabio Frizzi did the score and it's great. He even includes stuff from his Fulci work and it puts a smile on my face. A new version of Richarld Band's Puppet Master theme is on the end credits.

And the puppet effects are good for its budget. It's unfair to compare them to the original 5 films but the work here is head and shoulders above the Axis trilogy and all the gore is done practically.

If you're a puppet master fan check it out ASAP. Even if you don't like the story choices they changed for this reboot the gorehound in you will LOVE the kills.

For me the franchise is back and I couldn't be happier.

My least favorite

Warning: Spoilers
At the end of the 5th movie we were introduced to an older Gil from the future played by the awesome Dolph Lundgren. I assumed the 6th and last movie would feature him fighting the sharknado but Lundgren is completely MIA with some BS time travel excuse to explain the absence of the Gil character.

I found the first act entertaining enough but by the time it hit the third act and it became all about Tara Reid I was pretty checked out. There's a good reason why most fans voted her to die at the end of Sharknado 3. She's an awful actress and is, IMO, the worst thing about these movies. Even worse than the CGI.

I still love Sharknado 2 but this one was meh. Might watch it again but probably not. My least favorite of the series.
