Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Great visuals, Easter eggs and storylines beers a bit
My son was obsessed with the games back in middle school and I watched a good bit of the game play. Now as an 18 yr old saw he saw it a couple of nights ago. He had a good review so I watched it on Peacock, we both agree visually it was flawless 10/10 and if you're familiar with the storyline in the games it does follow it but adds more to it to flesh it out, also for the original fans there are a lot of Easter eggs dropped in as well as fan work such as the music came from fans, he said you could tell the true fans in the theater when a song played and half the theater cheered simply because they recognized and added it. I liked the keeping with the main story and was so so with the added bits. If you loved the games there's a lot to like but if you are unfamiliar and just are watching as a stand alone movie you probably won't like it as much. Over all he gave it a 9/10, I gave it a 6-7/10.
The Banishing (2020)
Guillermo del toro esque
I don't understand the reviews saying there was no plot. There is a huge plot pertaining to the woman, which Jessica Brown Findlay was superb as an actress, the house, the town, the history of all! It was slow a couple of times but only for a couple of times, it changed and morphed. If you liked Pans Labrynth this is very similar. The acting is great the cinematography is good and the story with enough twists to make you wonder where it's going. I didn't care for the ending but the movie, as a whole ,was worth the watch. It's not a jump scare type of movie.
Mom (2013)
A show that gets better with each season
I liked it when it first came out but it gets a lot better and much more funny once they get rid of Violet and Rosco and bring in Adam. I wish they had kept Baxter though...
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Great acting and direction but boring writing
Pretty much my title, great actors and cinematography but the story is soooo sleepy and boring. It takes forever to have anything interesting to happen. If you like very slow burners then you will like this.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020)
Waste of time and boring
Everyone else has accurately nailed this as TWD for teens full of self indulgence and zero common sense, story, plot, hook, entertainment, etc. I just whole heatedly agree.
Lost Resort (2020)
Annoying and self indulgent
I understand the need for people to have periods of self healing in their life but I can't watch the constant wailing and screaming and crying that goes on. I am not sure who wants to watch this. I thought it would be a bit more helpful to the viewer but it's just watching people break down and I can only eye roll so long before I had to turn the channel
Parks and Recreation (2009)
One of the best feel good comedies I have seen
I never realized this was on; caught a few minutes towards the end of the series and didn't 'get it' but that's because I hadn't been with these characters through their growth of many seasons. Caught the pilot in syndication and loved the characters! This is a show that doesn't become weak and lazy as it advances in seasons, you learn and love them all as the years progress and the writing is fantastic! You see yourself a little in each character- sometimes aloof like Ron or inspired like Leslie or just looking to live a high life like Tom and Donna. The story keeps progressing and new stories are added. I can not recommend this show any more than 10 stars as I would give it 12! I enjoy the reruns and if I have ever found a better series finale I can't think of one, Leslie's 'gift' to Ron in the final episode had me crying :)
Castle Rock (2018)
Give it a chance, if you know your Stephen King it gets going
So I watched the first episode and a half of S1 and was pretty lost with trying figure out who all the characters were and the story lines not being explained. Sissy Spacek (the original Carrie) is a main character but she wasn't Carrie (??), Bill Skarsgard (the new Pennywise) is in it but doesn't seem to be a human Pennywise...a little confusing. Then tried again a few weeks later and was glad I did. It gets going and I was picking up on a lot of references to many of King's stories. Even at the end of S1 I still was a little confused as to what I had watched...was the parallel universe episode a tribute to The Talisman with twinners?? Anyway, still a good watch, well acted and directed. THEN I started watching S2 which is a whole new season completely removed from S1 about the origins of Annie Wilkes and they must have listened to the critics that said S1 was slowly paced. By ep2 the season is in full action mode! I liked that it also keeps paying homage to the different characters and storyline events of most of his the books which I loved catching, I haven't read all of them but maybe 15 or so. I absolutely LOVE it!
Sneaky Pete (2015)
Sneaks up on you
I watched the pilot on Amazon and though the acting was good and cinematography was okay I sort of forgot about it as there wasn't some dramatic beginning to get you at the edge of your seat. Then looking through Amazon about a month later I decided to watch S1 E2, it was much better with more "hook", then Ep. 3 and I was hooked for good. It significantly ramps up from there and was so glad I gave it another shot. I understand why the pilot doesn't shoot out of the gates now, this is an in depth look at a bunch of con men/women and where they came from what causes this and a WHOLE lot of intertwining of stories. To have that they have to lay a good solid foundation for that to grow from, which it does and as I said I am hooked! GREAT show!!!!
Barry (2018)
Can't stop watching
This is one of those shows you can't stop watching. It does have some violence in it but it never goes too far and it has a lot of Comedy to balance it out. I only wish they would have made more than eight and I can't wait for season 2. Definitely worth the awards they've won so far.
