AlRawabi School for Girls (2021)
I was hoping to see what Jordanian life is like for girls
I was hoping to see what Jordanian life is like for girls, but disappointingly this is just a total rip off of every other B-grade American high school show about bullying.
Seriously, I'm sure that all high school girls in Jordan don't act and dress like and behave like valley-girls. And I can bet that parents don't let their young daughters use the Internet unsupervised or allow them to video conference boys. The story is predictable, the script is poor, acting is pathetic and very cringey. Even though I was very hopeful and looking forward to watching this show, I didn't even make it halfway through the first episode. Nothing to see here.
A California Christmas: City Lights (2021)
Too many flaws
If the places were fictional... It would be understandable, but they go to all the trouble and expense to take a helicopter ride from Petaluma to Marina Green, which would take the about the same amount of time as it would to drive. Less than 45 minutes.
Then driving around the city in a rental sports car, when you can afford a private helicopter makes no sense. And each cut was at different alternating locations at least 5 miles from the last, each time travelling in a totally opposite direction to no where. The helicopter may as well have landed on top of the hotel in the first place.
The movie is set in early December, yet it's clearly not filmed at that time of the year. And although it doesn't snow in San Francisco, you can hardly get around the city without wearing coats and multiple layer, not backless dresses.
All of the continuity holes were so irritating because they were so obvious to anyone whose been to San Francisco, but could have easily been avoided. It just made it incredibly difficult to watch.
The secondary characters back on the farm, and their storyline were way more interesting.
A.P. Bio (2018)
Almost got kicked off the plane
I watched the first 7 episodes on a flight last week and something I don't ever recall doing happened... I genuinely laughed out loud for probably 80% of every show, even though I tried hard to stifled my giggles, much to the disappointment of all those sitting nearby. I couldn't tell you exactly why this show made me laugh so hard, but it certainly was refreshing. Very unique, unpredictable intelligent writing with a lot of subtle cues that I'm guessing were lost on those haters who gave it a 1/10. I just hope that the writers don't run out of steam too early with this quirky commedy.
