The Fear Footage (2018)
Pretty awful.
I love found footage, and I love low budget films, but this one misses the mark at nearly every turn. It's an anthology with a interwoven story tying everything together, like the V/H/S movies do. The first segment here has a few decent scares, but they are jump scares. The rest of the segments were an absolute chore to get through and incredibly disappointing. The story that ties them all together actually has a really cool premise that is pretty creepy. The issue was that by the end, when it actually starts to get creepy, I was so checked out from being irritated and bored. The only redeeming part of this film was ruined for me. I gave this film 3 stars because the interwoven story actually had creativity and potential.
Afflicted (2018)
Ignore the bad reviews...
Apparently lots of people with these "illnesses" are upset by this docu-series so they came here to give b.s. 1 star reviews. It's actually very entertaining and I definitely recommend to anyone who is curious about people with these bizarre afflictions science doesn't recognize.
The Monster Project (2017)
Abysmal.
If you love horrible acting and hilarious CGI effects , you might enjoy this. It takes forever for anything to really happen and the characters are not worth your time to even get to know. I hate the filmmakers for subjecting the world to this garbage. I want to find them, and fight them.
American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore (2014)
A new level of FX!
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of this film at a festival back in October. I have seen the Japanese Guinea Pig films, so I knew what to expect. This is a film about absolute destruction of the human body. It's one for people who are into hardcore gore only. The film was shot on super 8, so it has a real gritty feel from start to finish. The premise is horrible - 2 woman are abducted, strapped down, and given liquid LSD while men wearing masks dismember them slowly, filming the entire gruesome process. I couldn't help but think about what it would be like to have a head full of acid while being slowly hacked apart. The special effects are INSANE!!! I've honestly never seen anything so horrifically real in a horror film before. The pace is slow and unrelenting. And at the end, when you think that the horror is over.....nope. The ending pushes things over a line that is too horrific for many to even consider. Well done to everyone involved in the making of this film!!! The standard for gore and practical effects has been reset!
Daylight (2013)
An absolute disaster
What a mess this movie was! I am almost at a loss for words. How do I even describe this movie?? Let's see....a super slow set up, about 10 different plot lines by the end including - paranormal elements, time travel, abused children, emotional trauma, murder, teleportation.. all culminating to a end that was nothing but people screaming, running around the various locations they teleport to, doors slamming, and camera interference, all of which lead to nothing. This movie tried so damn hard to do something different, but we were left with way too many plot developments, none of which get resolved. If this review sounds like a mess, it's simply because I am trying to describe the worst movie I have seen all year. Mind bending amounts of awfulness here. Oh, and the acting was horrible. At one point the camera guy actually whines "Oh man! Not again!!" after being teleported to a different location.
