The Shining (1980)
The most frightening movie ever.
It has been like 6 years when I watched it just one time, but still thinking of it makes me shiver. Maybe I was too young back then, maybe not but it gave me nightmares for two weeks at least. It is not a typical horror movie, sure there are little ghost girls in the corridors but that wasn't the scariest part, just a start for what it is going to be. I can't praise enough Nicholson's performance on this movie. Usually in this kind of movies I don't even care that much if the "good-ones" survive if it's poorly made, but the Shining really made me squeeze my pillow on the couch and hoping them not to get murdered by the insane father.
The true meaning of horror. I haven't read the book, I don't dare, this was scary enough. Maybe some day.
Kummeli Alivuokralainen (2008)
a disgrace to the name Kummeli
I have always been a fan of Kummeli series and movies, a really twisted humor of everyday life and making fun of actually everything. This movie really was different. Only in some points it made me chuckle a little bit but thats it. And most of the funniest jokes are simply recycled stuff. And a really, really bad choice to place Mikko Kivinen in the main role, he hasn't do any good to the series, in fact I always hated his performances. Probably the main Kummeli team was too tired and uninterested about this whole movie and it shows up. It would perhaps been a good long sketch as part of a series but trying to laugh almost 2 hours for a stupid immature gay joke is simply enough. Hope they will make another good movie like Jackpot or Kultakuume in the future.
Reindeerspotting - pako Joulumaasta (2010)
A drug story everyone should see.
A story about real life, nothing subtle here. Really pisses me off that Finnish government banned this documentary from minors for being "drug- positive" -which it definitely isn't. Reindeerspotting is a neutral view in narcotic life and it probably should be viewed as a part of drug education of schools. I have seen a lot of acted films that just mostly leaves the audience wondering why to even try taking drugs if they are all bad.
After just a few minutes of watching it when it finally came out from Finnish national television I thought it would be boring, just showing the drug addicts needling themselves, since Jani gets his fingers cut out in the beginning. But the movie doesn't even get showing off the cut-out fingers, it develops into an interesting story, almost if it was all scripted and acted which it isn't. And it really goes "behind the scenes" while first showing just a low-life junkies, but after that showing they are normal people just like the rest of us, having a dream of leaving the drug-filled life, and getting a family and a house.
