Rabbit Hole (2010)
Can we truly ever live with the pain of losing some one we love
Rabbit Hole is a story about love & irreplaceable loss, and how we each find our own private way of trying to sedate the ache & pain of losing someone we love. The story centers around Becca (Nicole Kidman in a Oscar-Nominated Role) a woman who tries to reconstruct her life after losing her young son Danny in an accident.
She tries to cope with her grief by gardening, cooking, spending time with her sister Izzy {Tammy Blanchard), and their mother {Dianne Wiest, Brilliant!}, and going to a support group, but nothing can ease the pain she dutifully tries to hide. "He's everywhere," she tells her husband Howie (Aaron Eckhart) " I can see his fingerprints on the doorknobs".
Howie does his best to comfort Becca, but the two eventually began to drift apart as they find their own private way of coping with their grief.
Now, in the hands of anyone beside John Cameron Mitchell, this film could have ended up as a cheap drama/love story. Mitchell delves into the very essence of how we as humans differ in the way we deal with our grief, and that we forget our sorrows, but that at some point in time they become bearable.
Source Code (2011)
"I would make those few seconds count"
Wow! Duncan Jones is AMAZING! In Source Code, he manages to keep a energetic and complex plot rolling, while bringing to light the very real question, of, "If you only had a short amount of time left to live, would you spend it trying to save yourself, or would you try to impact someone else's life in a positive way?" The story is centered around Capt. Coulter Stevens {Jake Gyllenhaal}, a helicopter pilot who wakes up on a train in Chicago in the body of another man, sitting opposite of a woman named Christina {Michelle Monaghan}who acts as if she and him know each other. Then the train explodes and Stevens wakes up inside a machine called the Source Code. He then finds out that he is part of a program designed by a man named Dr. Rutledge {Jeffrey Wright}, to enter the last eight minutes of another man's conscience, thus allowing Stevens eight minutes to try and find the bomb and the bomber that are on board the Chicago train. Find the bomb, find the bomber, prevent another major catastrophe in the heart of downtown Chicago. With a great script, an awesome cast, and an amazing director, Source Code is a thriller you must see! "What would you do, if you only had eight minutes to live?"
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Quit Linking this movie to Twilight!!!!!!
First, let me say that I think Amanda Seyfried is one of the greatest & most lovely actresses to ever grace the silver screen. Her performance in Red Riding Hood was nothing short of amazing. Julie Christie was an amazing choice for the role of Valerie's grandmother! She was so sweet but yet so mysterious. Now, when I think Gary Oldman, I think of kindhearted, protecting Inspector Gordon from Batman. In Red Riding Hood, he was cold hearted, demeaning and a superbly complicated, intricate, supernatural hunter named Father Solomon. Max Irons & Shiloh Fernandez totally pulled of the whole "She's Mine and YouCan't Have Her" thing. Kudos to all the aforementioned actors & actresses who pulled of AMAZING performances with an okay script. The movie's visual effects left nothing to be desired. The sets were particularly interesting, very intricate in detail and very believable. {I especially liked Grandmother's house!} The animation of the Werewolf was striking and yet still subtle... I absolutely loved the choice of tree for the woods surrounding the Town & Grandmothers house, they were beautiful in a menacing sort of way. I think this movie is well worth the price of a movie ticket. Its a film that can stand on it's own without being compared to Twilight! Seriously give up your preconceived ideas on how this movie should measure up to Twilight and just sit back, relax & enjoy and enjoy the show!!
