There is no appropriate system

For rating this movie there is no appropriate ranking system. So I gave it a 5 because it's INSANE. I can't even begin to write a description that would help anyone.

Nothing new, nothing special, same old same old. Fun set pieces, ridiculous stunts, tired characters. About the only thing that stands out in any way is that Tyrese's character shines brightest by pointing out the blessed absurdity of these movies.

Definitely fun

I wanted to like this more than I did. I think part of it was rather poor direction on the part of the director when it came to Karen Gillian's character - a lot of talent wasted trying to be something she doesn't quite achieve. Lots of fun violence though!

So much potential

I wanted to like this more than I did. The concept is great, the cinematography is good, there are some wonderfully solid character moments, and it's nice to hear indigenous music throughout. I think the problem for me is that I read the books beforehand and the show diverges dramatically from the source material. Often times that can work in favour for a show as the mediums are very different. This is a rare case for me where I think the show could have done better by staying in some ways more true to the book - especially by possibly embracing less western styles of storytelling. Also, trying to please western audiences less.

A truly excellent adaptation

Colourful & complicated supporting characters, a hopeful but flawed protagonist, and great direction make this not only a good tv show, but also an excellent adaptation. They take the themes, some major characters and the world building of Lemire and adapt it faithfully to the tv medium.

Podcast heaven

An incredible audio drama series with an excellent script, great performances, and, in season 2, some outstanding immersive audio design! I recommend listening to this on quality headphones for the best experience.

Can we have a Y/A series that doesn't uphold traditional patriarchal white privilege in its "heroes"???

Surprising

As much as I had heard about how bad this movie was, I was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Chris Pratt is typical, but it's really the supporting characters and actors who make this movie entertaining - JK Simmons is simply delightful, Yvonne S delivers the goods, Edwin Hodge and Sam Richardson are probably the ones who shine the brightest though.

Biggest downside to me: about 30-40 minutes too long.

Exactly what I expected

This was a fun, wild romp in a mega shark infested ocean! Is it a great film? No. But it doesn't try to be. Several of the actors really do put their heart into it and it's fun. The ones who don't, you can tell and it doesn't take away too much. The script is pleasantly hammy, the plot is basic. The special effects on the shark are better than I was expecting, which is really nice.

All in all, an entertaining, fun film
