Could Be Much Better
13 April 2022
I was so excited to watch this, I love Miranda Otto and I want to support an all female lead but this is not great and I have no idea how it received so many 10 star ratings, could it be friends of the the crew/cast/network trying to bump the score?

Let's start with the Filipino stereotypes. Between the gold digging Filipino wife and the Filipino servants (mind you, one is wearing an actual uniform) this feels borderline racist. Don't even get me started on the poor little rich girl who is sent from Philippines to work as a cleaner. Miranda Ottos character is so overacted at times it pains me to watch her. Cue the evil mother in law, the philandering husbands...

The story has more plot holes than Swiss cheese, the viewer this needs to be as drunk as Sara to overlook them.

This wasn't a drama, this wasn't dark enough to be a noir, this wasn't remotely funny, so what genre was this? I think it could have swung a little more in any of those directions and achieved a far greater story.

There were some rather well placed flashback scenes but overall 80% of the show I found almost too cringe worthy to watch.

Better Than Expected
11 April 2022
I came into this series blind and I'm glad I did. Without giving anything away I will warn that Whilst the swearing was high (I mean, it is Aussie after all), the violence was not, something I immensely appreciated. And actually I really enjoyed the dynamic between the three leads (yes, I classify the child as a lead). This is a sweet unpretentious little love story, I sincerely hope there is a season 2.

Underrated Accurate War Portrayal
21 March 2022
I don't understand the negative reviews. To the Americans complaining the enemy is "unnamed" maybe take a geography lesson and figure out where Sweden is located. This is an almost scarily accurate portrayal of what war between Russia and the nordics will look like.

Going through the motion the acting is solid, the scenery is breathtaking, and the suspense is from the first moment is well maintained.

If you enjoyed Children Of Men this is for you.

Missed opportunity.
11 February 2022
Could have been brilliant. I followed the true story when it unfolded, and it was already interesting enough. Cut to this hot mess; Anna Chlumsky, along with her side kicks, completely overplayed their roles. And it ends up feeling like a bgrade version of "Annie" when her and her boyfriend glimpse into the life of Anna's friends. Come on, who hasn't at least once experienced heated flooring?!

Julia Garner, you are superb. The only reason this gets any stars is because of you. Anna Chlumsky you're just annoying. And let's add in the producer and director, someone had to approve that shocking performance. What a wasted story.

Who?
30 January 2022
Let me confess I don't care about football, I had zero idea who this woman was. After reading the blurb was expecting to see a rags to riches story of how Someone got through adversities. Nope the exact opposite.

This show is so cringe worthy and forced. It's clearly a relationship of convenience, he needed someone to mind the kids he and she was looking for a sugar daddy. This seems like a project he probably financed to keep her entertained.

Fashion wise it's clear she has zero to contribute. She's not a phenomenon. She's just so utterly boring, a narcissistic baby-minder who found someone with a camera willing to give her 15 minutes.

Even if reality tv is your thing it's best to avoid.

Avoid.
13 November 2021
I'm fairly certain not a single person working on this movie has been to bali. The inaccuracies start to stack up and not matter what you try to do you can't pretend you don't know better. If you have more than two brain Cells avoid.

Warning: Spoilers
I am currently recovering from my second vaccine and needed something lovely and mindless to watch. Unfortunately this was not it, I was constantly distracted by all the things wrong with this show. Let me list my major peeves;

Despite being an all female management team the women in charge constantly say 'guys'.

They proud claim they have never had any design training oh does that show. The sconce they so proudly put in the double rooms is the only light.... There is a reason designers put two separate lights beside each bed in a shared room situation!

Sure fake plants looks great but they are NOT environmentally friendly nor do they contribute anything to the world.

Why would you put a 21 year old with NO project management experience in charge with a project like this? Half the problems would have been resolved quicker with someone with experience.

Perhaps they should have scripted their dialogue as both women are painful to listen to.

Constantly droning on about Rosé, Instagram moments, and shallow people.

The best part of the show was watching their contractor so rolling his eyes.

Nothing about this show or this hotel screams 'authentic'. I expected more from Canadians to be honest.

Cringeworthy and Unrealistic
30 May 2021
I really want to like this. Lily Collins can be wonderful. In this though she's just another obnoxious American who came to educate Europeans. Poor girl it's not her fault, I feel like the team who produced this have never actually BEEN to Paris. Or own a passport. 5.60 euros for over a dozen roses in Paris from the south of France? Pfft come on!

And the apartments in this are even more or a slap in the face than Sex and the City. If you're going to do a series in a different continent then you must do your due diligence and actually learn a thing or two about said continent/country.

Better than Expected
26 April 2021
Quite refreshingly original but with elements of Hitchcock, moments of Sex and the City, a touch of Memento, and enough plot Twists to keep it engaging the whole way through. I didn't want to mention the Big Bang theory but so many reviews have; I did not like that show or the part of Penny. Yet here am drawn to the lead, I feel like this was always the role she was meant to play and she does it beautifully. Nothing feels forced it all so well acted. The whole ensemble is well executed. I hope to see another tantalising season.

This Is the Kind Of Apocalyptic Movie We Need Right Now
16 April 2021
The storyline is a bit flimsy and yes they took liberties with the infamous "End Of Zee World" video for the opening scene. That all said this is fun, a few moments of Edge of you seat, the Heart of Wall-E and a couple of Twists. As wholesome as the end of the world gets without feeling like the Brady Bunch.

Ignore the bad reviews
2 April 2021
Let me start by saying I adored the original Disney animated version of Mulan. After viewing I came here and was shocked by how many low ratings this movie has received. I feel a lot of the negative reviews here might either culturally or racially driven. Or perhaps people have their knickers in a knot because there is a kickass Chinese feminist lead in a multimillion dollar production. There is similar no way any reasonable person could give this one star. It's brilliant, fast paced, well acted, thought provoking, beautifully shot... It's not a remake of a Cartoon it's Even better and deserves to be viewed for its own merits.

Not A Ghost Story
10 October 2020
I managed to finish this series and can safely say it's NOT a horror story. It's a romance. If you're looking for thrills a minute look elsewhere. It's quite sweet, not the greatest but it's good.

Easy watch. In the similar vein to Great British Bake-off there is no drama or rivalry. The judges give constructive feedback. The ideas that come out of this are simply mind blowing. Interesting concepts and overall just a pleasant show. I hope there are more.

Beautifully Slow
6 April 2020
Full disclaimer I have only finished episode 4 however I find myself drawn already to defend the "slow" pace of this show.

Set in a nondescript time in rural America the stories at first seem disjointed however have a few common threads that tie them neatly together. Brilliantly acted and directed, along with a masterful soundtrack that helps the viewer immerse themselves into this world. It's in a similar vein to Black Mirror but it's nowhere near as malevolent. Some may say this isn't true sci-fi however I would argue it is the epitome of Science Fiction.

This series already growing and evolving in such a way that I can already envision this as being a metaphor for life itself. It's not a "gripping" show, it goes deeper than that....

Yes this show is slow. But like life it is slow, and it is brilliant.

What a Masterpiece!
26 February 2020
If you've ever wondered what the draw card to Berlin for creatives in 2018 this is the film for you! I was lucky enough to attend the opening of it which also had the soundtrack performed live. In this city there is a party, carnival, celebration every week (more so than in any other city/country I've lived in) and this film has captured that atmosphere to a tee. Masterpiece!

Infinitely Better Than Expected
16 February 2020
I am a huge sci-fi fan however the premise even to me sounds slightly ridiculous so I only watched it when I wanted a "no brainer". A little more complicated than expected but thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Acting is superb, I wish I'd watched in the OV not in English though....

Missed opportunity
13 January 2020
I am not sure why I disliked this so much. Could it be Matt Damon's woody acting or the very disjoined and underdeveloped Plot trying to tie central characters with the "black" family next door. The one redeeming quality was the child who did an excellent job however it just wasn't enough. I really wanted to like this I just couldn't....

This could have been a great sci-fi movie. Instead a bunch of different concepts from albeit better films are rehashed haphazardly. This is a made for TV sci-fi flick with ok acting and if there is nothing better on then sure give it a whirl.

The premise seems strong, majority of the cast is great, visuals superb however I'm on the third episode and I have had to turn it off. The child is just unbearably annoying. If you're not a fan of frustrating children probably not for you.

Solid Entertainment For Kids & Adults Alike
8 October 2019
Full disclaimer I'm only halfway through the season but it's reminiscent of "are you afraid of the dark" with a touch of "black mirror". As an adult I've found it both entertaining and also scary. It's surprisingly well acted for a kids show. Due to the last episode I watched I may also be sleeping with the lights on tonight...

I'm not a major fan of car chasing scenes, I usually turn out, however I was glued to every movement in every single action scene. Utterly addictive, I can't wait to watch it again. I don't understand how anyone could rate this less than 10/10. One of the most original films I've seen in years.

I remember hearing the first "f" bomb and thinking hmm that's a bit different. Don't judge it on the first episode, it's Not your Standard Teen Horror. It's been marketed as a drama but it's more of a camp dark dramady. I really hope in season 2 they up the camp factor through, I've been waiting a long time for a Buffy The Vampire Skayer successor.

Binge Worthy
11 March 2019
As a female who has never even held a drivers licence I doubt greatly that I am the F1's target market but for the 2019 that's going to change. This doco series puts a personality into the sport that I often just assumed was bland & full of thugs. Utterly fascinating, it also does (in my opinion) an excellent job of explaining the rivalries between the different company factions. Really hope there will be a season 2.

Beautiful Love Story (between a man and a city)
11 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who has spent a lot of time in Mexico City or is interested in history will really appreciate this episode. Both the leads (and little Nick) did an excellent job, I feel it's one of the better acted episodes. The moment and dialogue between the two leads on the Sun pyramid in Teotihuacan was magic and come on, that closing scene?! A beautiful reminder that love doesn't need to exist just between two people; sometimes the love you have for an object, an idea or a place can be equally as powerful. That was the point this is probably my favourite episode so far. Don't listen to the hate.
