Diarra from Detroit (2024)
Ass funny as it is thrilling
I loved the show from the first episode till the last. I am looking forward to the next season and as many seasons as they make, I hope are many.
When representations matter, this show pokes fun in a way those being represented can appreciate, and not be offended. There are shows about people of color and the LGBT+ community, without representation on the writing staff and it shows in the work.
Black people giving descriptions of other black people as black. Like white is the default for everyone. Women playing games with men that woman don't play, men do. The queer community all portrayed with the same stereotype rather than individuals
I love a show where people are just people, rather that being written through the lens of a white, male, privileged gaze.
Unprisoned (2023)
Well written, well acted, not what I expected
Unprovoked,
Just the name made me cringe, I don't like stereotypical shows about black people.
This show is not that.
This show is about people, trying to live their life while living with and sometimes in their trauma.
The team's are very personal and each character deals with their trauma in very different ways
Some of the trauma does come from being black, being a woman and being a fatherless kid and some comes from being alive
There are very real issues and the are written and played for real
I thought this was going to be another show about a black person in prison but it not, its about a human being who went to prison and how that effected his loved ones and how that effect who he is, and what they all have to do to move past all of that trama.
America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation (2022)
A breath of fresh air in reality competition TV
The contestants like each other, the judges are honest, but not cruel, the made real food real people would make
and that is what ATK does best
I guess this show is not for everyone, but it was for me.
I hate reality shows because of the created drama and the not -seen-coming eliminations that are done for drama and not to promote the best and weed out the worst.
ATK the next generation is truly authentic, in the food the contestants created to the points the judges critiqued them on
so if you are sick of the drama, and the fake high and lows this is the show for you
so say boring , I say a breath of fresh air.
Kindred (2022)
I wanted to love it
This stray far away from the book but that wouldn't matter if it was written better or even just different but it doesn't make sence. The acting sucks and so does the dialog.
While some reviews say the point is to show how horrible slavery was, that is not realistic. It's science fiction but it's written like a drama,or even a soap opera. You have to suspend belief in sify
But it's easier to do if you can believe the acting and the dialog and the story.
One person is allowed to have there interpretation but I think a collaboration could have gone a long way in helping this show
Read the book it's just better.
Emergency (2022)
Great movie
White people reviewing this movie and saying it is unrealistic is sad, and wrong. Even in fiction. The movie is well directed and acted, I was all in for the ride.
Most Dangerous Game (2020)
the story Is predictable and the people are characterture
I saw the movie, luckly. If I had to watch a longer version I wouldn't have finished it. Dodge Tynes only skill was running but he beat skilled hunters who have done this hunt for years. And what did his wife do to get all the praise....nothing.
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
Well written, well acted, well done
I went in expecting to hate it and was disappointed. I knew going in what it was about, with a book and a movie already classics. But I was surprised how much I loved it. The acting on the mark, the writing, the current pop references, the historical reference. The comparisons to the little prince. They all worked.
I think it drags in some spots, but I blame that on having to have a certain number of episodes for cable TV, but they used that time for character development.
Run the World (2021)
Represention means everything
While not the first show of young positive black people. It is one of the best. I enjoy people who look like me, have the same history and someone else has to Google what they are talking about.
Harlem (2021)
Young, and fun
Represention means everything, seeing people who look like me. Same history and background. Same issues and problems. Beautiful black people living a live there jobs could never afford and doing it in style friends and SATC can eat their hearts out.
