Candy (2022)
You better be patient
Unlikeable characters, church, guns, what is not to like. I'm glad I'm not American. Stupid unreal hairstyles (I was there) and sugar sugar sugar! Very difficult to watch let alone enjoy.
Revolver (2005)
WHAT?
I could not make out anything that Jason Statham said. He must be the king of quiet talking! If he couldn't be bothered to talk intelligibly then I can't be bothered to watch. I give an extremely generous 3 stars.
Yellowstone (2018)
Dallas 2018
I don't know where the 8.7 comes from. Over the top sets, costumes, make up and storylines. Not for me, not even close to a believable series, excepting maybe in America. Rest of the world - forget it.
Julia: Breads (2022)
Seems to have run off the rails
I have loved the series so far. This episode seems to be the first one concentrating on the cooking instead of the character development. I found it very slow and turned off before the end. It's not helped by Sarah Lancashire's unclear speech.
The Bourne Legacy (2012)
Good cast but I couldn't hear a word
Why, why, why? The dialogue was so much quieter than the music I couldn't work out what was happening without getting my ears blown out when the scenes changed. The dialogue between Oscar Isaacs and Jeremy Renner was particularly bad. I have never had to run my amplifier higher during a movie. Not worth the trouble.
Manifest (2018)
More Whinging Americans
Taken from a similar themed "B" grade science fiction movie from the fifties in which an aircraft is lost in time I was looking forward to a modernised version of it. (Sorry I don't remember it's name but it centres on anti nuclear weapons) I couldn't take the over the top acting and childish behaviour of the players and had to stop watching after the first episode.
The Fall (2013)
Great start trailed away to ridiculous
I don't understand the acting technique where actors talk more softly to emphasise the intensely of the emotion. In the strongest scenes their speech gets quieter and quieter until almost silent. Gillian Anderson has mastered this technique and it drives me crazy! In series one she spoke like a normal person but by series three she was unwatchable. I didn't make it through to the end I found it just too annoying.
The Accountant (2016)
Nice treatment of autism but very messy
The movie started well but became more confusing and boring as it moved along. It's a bad sign when the writers have to get one of the characters to explain the story at 1.5hrs in because it is so poorly told during the rest of the movie. No one could possibly make any sense of it otherwise. Not great.
Landscapers (2021)
Not for Americans or Marvel fans
Amazing performance by Olivia Coleman, she is truly a chameleon. I loved the time shifting giving a real insight into the motivation of the main characters. Not sensational but insightful, a dark subject handled with beauty and delicacy. The shifting between black and white and colour was also well done.
The Father (2020)
Remarkable
The best depiction of a man coping with dementia and it's effect on his family that I have ever seen. I felt myself identifying with Anthony's confusion and the frustration of those in his life. Truly excellent.
Inception (2010)
Ridiculous
Seems like an excuse to film stunts. I haven't read the book and I couldn't understand what was going on. And I can't take any movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it seriously anyway. It's a Great movie for 14 year olds.
Top Gun (1986)
Embarrassing
Team America World Police is much more realistic than this time capsule from the eighties. Nothing has aged very well except for Val Kilmer's performance. He is actually good! Cringeworthy.
Goliath (2016)
Should have finished after season 2
Admittedly all of the stories have been pretty far fetched but the change of direction towards mystic themes in season 3 was strange. And then season 4 ???! Time shifts, dream sequences? It is too ridiculous to watch now. Good luck if you can stick at it, I couldn't.
Szadz (2020)
My first Polish drama and I love it
Started slowly, showing just enough of each character. As you get to know everyone the story gets richer and more complex. The lead male actor Maciej Stuart was particularly creepy. The hero Aleksandra Poplawska was an excellent flawed person as we all are. The street scenes were lovely as was the forest. I enjoyed it very much.
Enola Holmes (2020)
What did he say?
I gave up after struggling for 15 minutes to understand what Henry Caville was saying. Beautiful scenery great costumes but it was just too much of an effort to follow the dialogue
Midway (2019)
Meh
As far as CGI goes this is almost believable, almost. Way too much of the story is told through CGI and I believe the technology is not good enough for that. Worse is that some of the genuine scenes seem degraded to blend in with the CGI making the movie one dimensional and unbelievable. Ed Skrein was miscast, his accent was particularly strange and I found his character particularly obnoxious. That might be me, maybe Americans like loud mouth twerps. I admit I didn't make it all the way through, I didn't see much to be gained by doing so
Twin Rivers (2007)
A gentle masterpiece
I came across this movie by accident and I am so glad I did. Every thing about it was handled gently but realistically. The colours of the scenery, the locations, the costumes were restrained and gave the story much more impact and much more reality, It was heartbreaking but enlightening to learn of the actions and emotions of an era not that much in the past. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey I was taken on and think Mathew Holmes is a genius to accomplish so much with so little. I want to see what else ha has done Loved it!
Murder Call: Drop Dead Gorgeous (1997)
Video not film 👎🏽
Not a bad story, well acted by well known actors, even the sets look pretty good. BUT the whole production appears cheap and boring. Such a terrible shame that so many shows of the 90's look boring, boring, boring and so, are unlikely to get a decent viewership. The colours are just bad and add the poor resolution and you end up this. You will need to be a real fan of Australian tv drama to stay until the end.
