Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
This Is The One
I'm a child of the 70s and a lifelong Trek fan. Paramount finally got it right with this one. Well written dialogue, interesting characters who have actual personalities and motivations behind their choices, and smart plots. I'm just loving this show so far!

Flawless Execution of An Incredible Show
This is a near perfect show. Well written, smart. The characters are so well done and well acted. By episode 9 things start to unravel and episode 10 is one of those shows that will make me think about it for days afterward. Just love it.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
S02 is a Big Step Up
I'll start by saying that I can't stand Discovery and gave it a terrible review in here. I've been watching Star Trek since being a kid in the 70s. For me Picard is feeling more like the familiar Trek territory that I love. I'm interested in this storyline and the new characters have all grown on me at this point. Loving the show and interested in seeing where it takes us this season. I do wish they would keep the swearing down a bit more. This is Star Trek, not HBO and we don't need the series to feel more authentic by the realism of bad language.

Good Show (But Belief Must Be Suspended)
Overall I enjoy the show. The characters are well written and well developed. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are remarkably good actors in the show.
I do have to suspend my belief while watching because I catch a lot of anachronisms and things in the show that are just incorrect about the journey west. But if you can do this successfully, it's an entertaining show well worth the watch.

Beautiful
I remember Alex Lowe well from my subscription to Outside Magazine in the 90s. I used to go to Bozeman to see friends, and skied the slopes of Bridger Bowl several times. This film really brought home the person as well as the mythical scale his legend became. His family had to move through stages of grief more than once. I felt like this was a moving, heartfelt tribute, and a wonderful personal glimpse into this enduring family. Conrad is an honorable and good man for the things he has done and I can't help but think highly of him now, as he became legendary in his own right. In the end this was a film very moving and I was in tears for the last ten or fifteen minutes. Deeply personal, deeply touching, and deeply beautiful.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Ditch the political commentary and stick with the story.
If this show spent half as much time on the story and core character development of a few key characters as it does its constant lecturing on inclusivity and political correctness, it would actually be interesting to watch. As it is, every episode is almost painfully cringe worthy.
The emotion it tries to elicit is absolutely never earned. It's clearly contrived. Here, you should be moved and cry at this moment because that is what our characters are doing. This backfires powerfully and is an insult to intelligent viewers.
I long for Star Trek to return someday. This sappy soap opera just isn't it. It's a shame too because the characters actually do have potential.
