Terrible
26 December 2020
I found the first Wonder Woman movie enjoyable, but this one totally insufferable. I can't believe they couldn't find a better story idea, a better screenplay, a better actor to play the bad guy... and on and on. Made zero sense. A total waste.

One of greatest anti-war movies ever made
23 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not going to really spoil it other than to say that its ending is one of the greatest endings in all of movie history.

This movie is a profound, and moving, story, based on real life incidents in World War I.

It offers a shocking depiction of what war is really about.

Interesting that Adolphe Menjou, a real life coward and quisling and traitor to his people, plays someone here who is about on the same level.

Kirk Douglas's best role ever, in my book.

The imagery is very stark, and very piercing and hard hitting.

The story is beyond sad.

And yet the ending offers a measure of hope.

Awesome flick.

What the mafia really is about
23 August 2013
Most mafia movies don't really capture what the real life mafia is truly about.... simply a group of sociopaths who are obsessed with money, and who have found a way to make money by being sociopaths.

This movie is the real thing.

I love the Godfather trilogy, but its explanation of how you get to be the Don of a mafia family -- by going up against the local crime boss -- is ludicrous. Goodfellas shows you the way it really works: the way you become a mafioso is by sucking up to crime bosses, to the point that you will do anything they tell you to do. If they tell you to fetch, you fetch.

Joe Pesci's portrayal is off the charts, one of the greatest movie performances ever, and his "you think I'm funny" is one of the greatest scenes in all of movie history.

Paul Sorvino is brilliant as Paul Cicero.

Lorraine Bracco's performance was a revelation.

Robert DeNiro and Ray Liotta are awesome.
