1000km of Chaos (2022)
Great insight
I'm not too much interested in ultra running, but I really enjoyed watching this documentary.
This is a very good insight into an ultra athletes life, quickly bringing ús through his life on to how he got here.
It brings us through all the plannings, the training, the diet, the struggles, the pains, the cancellations, covid-19, the medics, and so on.
The scenery of Ireland is just stunning. I'm not surprised he got into ultra running with such beauty around him. But it looks tough.
It's also nice to see the more personal side to Kevin too and how he cares for the environment around him
Love the music chosen too to accompany the documentary.
Drag Race Italia (2021)
Painful to watch. Horrible
Only Italians could watch this. I've watched all Drag Races around the world, and this is by far the worst. It's absolutely dire. Not only is the drag, 'comedy', and dancing the worst, but the presentation is terrible too. The female judge is very annoying and the main judge never stops talking. There is nothing exciting about it. The whole drag is extremely low level. Also the treatment of the only good drag queen in the competition, Enorma, was disgraceful. Instead of punishing the younger drag queens, especially Lukisha Lubamba, for bullying and disrespecting the older queens who helped get the LBGQ+ community this far, they instead punished her. Everything about the show was painful to watch. I ended up just leaving it on in the background while I done other things. If it wasn't for the Pit Crew this show wouldn't even get a star.
Insiders (2021)
Unbearable
As with nearly all Spanish TV programs, this program is way over-done. The idea of the show is good, similar to Big Brother, but with a potentially good twist, Unfortunately, as always when Spanish production gets its hand on a show, it milks out things too much. Just look at the Spanish versions of The Voice, Got Talent, etc. They go on for so many hours until the viewer can no longet stand it. Instead of 1 hour, they are at least 4 hours in Spain. You want to destroy a fairly okay reality show, give it to a Spanish production team. Had to force myself to watch Season 1, just to give it a fair shot.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Probably the worst film I've ever seen
I have a feeling that whoever is giving this more than 5 is a 'friend' of the film. This film is so bad that it's actually painful to watch it. The storyline is a pathetic attempt at showing gay romance. It's really a painful script to watch. The acting is perhaps the worst I've ever seen. Even the over-acting South-American programs are easier to watch. It's no wonder you don't see this actors in anything else. This was the most painful film that we have ever watched, but it was so bad that we just had to find out where it was going. What a waste of about 2 hours. Please! Don't waste your life watching this rubbish.
Dara and Ed's Great Big Adventure (2015)
Amazing
This is one of the best programs that I have seen on the Pan-American highway. Shows you some of the funny sides of the route, the magical parts of the route, and even some of the more disturbing parts of the route. This feels like a more real experience than some of the other programs that I have seen on it. This is one of my favourite programs on it. Very real and done by two very funny Irish guys. Would love to see them do a longer program on it.
The Kindness Diaries (2017)
Obnoxious, pretentious and self-praising presenter
There are several people like the Denis O'Brien, who have been doing this kind of thing, and much more, for several years, without seeking any praise or fame.
This guy is so full of pretentious self-praising, it's sickening. He;s extrememly patronising. I'm surprised he isn't wearing a union jack on his travels. Although I like the idea of the program, this guy ruins it all. In reality, it's not an 'honest' program. Deep down inside, he knows that if things don't work out on his travels, he has the money to go where he wants. It's not a 'genuine' program.
This guy claims to be some sort of travel guru, yet he doesn't even know that the vast majority of Latin Americans only speak Spanish or Portuguese. He tries to communicate with Latin Americans in english (of course!!!), and the tiny amount of Italian and French that he knows. He rarely tries Spanish, the actual language of the people, even though he actually worked in Peru several years ago. So ignorant. He has the typical british attitude when travelling, to expect everyone to speak english, and not bothering to try communicate in the language of the country he is visiting.
The only reason we watched this is because this is a route that we have always wanted to do, but this is the worst show ever on it. We generally just leave it running in the background.
Watch 'Dara and Ed's Big Aventure' instead.
The Last Czars (2019)
Ruined by the accents
Absolutely ridiculous and comical that this is supposed to be Russian history and the 'actors' are incapable of doing Russian accents. Isn't that what acting is? Being able to act like someone that you are not?? Difficult to watch as the accents are dreadful. Makes you feel that this is about england, not Russia. Horrible.
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Perhaps the worst film that I've ever seen
Do yourself a favour and don't bother watching it. It's horrible. What a waste of a couple of hours of your life. Painful to watch. Dreadful 'actors'. Cringey to watch. Painful how they exaggerate a true story to such an embarrassing level. Worst film ever.
Married with Secrets: Yes, Master (2016)
Could have been good.....but too many mistakes
This episode could've been good if it were not for the unprofessional mistakes made all over the place.
There are too many dreadful mistakes in this episode ('Yes, Master') that it makes you feel the whole series must be just as inaccurate.
First, the accents are dreadful 'Irish' accents. Sound nothing like an Irish accent. More like Estonian or something else half the time. The only person who had a good normal accent was the runner in the forest, but I am assuming he is Irish anyway. The rest of the accents were dreadful.
The Irish police force are called Gardaí Siochaina (or 'Garda' for singular), not 'police', as was put on their uniform in the series. If you want to keep the series professional, stop simplifying for the ignorant. These are real-life stories, not fantasy!
Also, the car license number was with an Italian plate, not an Irish one. How can you make so many simple mistakes?
Also, the graveyard that you showed, was nothing like Shanganagh Cemetery, the real one. How do you think the Irish live???
So inaccurate with simple things, it's hard to watch. I wonder how inaccurate the details are in other series???
Spend some effort to get correct details to give more 'power' to your story. Otherwise it looks highly unprofessional.
Anna Karenina (1997)
Average
The story itself is fairly good, but I just don't understand that so- called 'actors' are incapable of doing accents. This is supposed to be about Russia, not England. The English accents make this absolutely comical and lowers the standard of the production. Sometimes you wonder how they got their acting jobs in the first place if they are incapable....of acting. And acting includes doing accents. I think it also reflects the level of acting coming out from England when they only seem capable of doing English accents. Was the whole world English at one time? I couldn't bare to finish watching this film and had to leave it about a third of the way into it, mostly due to the accents.I kept thinking it was set in England. Best going for the book.
Philadelphia, Here I Come! (1974)
Very touching.
I have to partly agree with one of the reviewers that the book is better. But isn't that the case with most films? However, I think that for people who have difficulty reading, or just want to watch a film, this is an excellent option to go for. It is an extremely deep film based on the difficult relationship between a father and a son. I never tire of watching this film and I would highly recommend watching it. Yes, the accents are not entirely up to scratch, but it is from over 40 years ago, so I'll forgive them for that. I have watched this film several times and loved it each time. Very touching film. Definitely worth a watch.
Dancing at Lughnasa (1998)
One of the best films of this century
I cannot understand how so many people have just given this classic play by the great Brian Friel just an average score. I take it they are incapable of understanding the deeper meaning to great European films like this. I guess if it doesn't include expensive props, they are incapable of reading under the surface. I had read this play many years ago, and loved it, and I had put off watching the film until recently. This has to be one of the greatest films that I have ever seen and one that is full worthy of a 10/10. Excellent performances by all, a powerful script, great directing. This is a must for everyone who wants more than fast cars and expensive props.
