Turkish turkey.
19 January 2007
I don't understand Turkish at all and the copy I have of the film is not subtitled so my comments are based primarily on how the film looks compared with the original Tarzan films.

However the story is really easy to follow if you've seen some of the Tarzan films from the 1930's.

A lot of footage has been lifted from these films to save on production costs.(this explains why the film's in black and white even though it was made as late as 1974.)

Tarzan fans may recognize a lot of scenes from Tarzan's revenge with Glenn Morris and the famous Weissmuller yell is used a lot in the film.

Yavuz Selekman is no Weissmuller or Barker but he's still looks convincing enough as the ape man.(Nice sideburns)

Some of the shots of the dinosaurs and the erupting volcano were also used in the Hindi film Tarzan and Cobra.

This film is a nice addition to any Tarzan fan's collection.

European Tarzan.
18 January 2007
This is one of the many unauthorized Tarzan films that were produced in Europe in the 1960's and 70's.

The copy I have(with Greece subtitles)says Tarzak against the leopard men on the cover but the hero's called Zoltak in the film.

The film delivers all the clichés you would expect from a Tarzan/jungle man picture.

It has the usual wrestler/bodybuilder type in the leading role.

The hero lives in a tree house, swings on wines and fights huge rubber crocodiles.

The acting and dialog is overall bad and the natives are portrayed in the usual way.

Off all the actors I've seen to portray Tarzan/jungle man on screen, Ralph Hudson was probably the least suited. with his curly red hair and his short physique he just doesn't look the part.

But if you're a Tarzan movie fan or if you just love bad cinema in general this one's definitely for you.

It has a very cool "horror" soundtrack that helps to keep the pace up and the leopard men's costumes and their village looks really nice.

Compared to the other films I have seen in this category I would say that it's not as good as King of the jungle.or Tarzan and the Rainbow with Steve Hawkes.

But just as interesting as Tarzan and the jungle mystery or the Kawana Treasure with Richard Yesteran.

Slightly better than Tarzan in King Solomon's Mines with David Carpenter.

Henrik.
