The Butter Battle Book (1989 TV Movie)

Best Dr. Seuss and a perfect adaptation!
10 November 2013
Many people say both the book and this short is to heavy for the kids but I think it's the best way to teach them about the evils of war. It doesn't give them any answers but instead ask question and make them think!

What great about this short is that not only it's a perfect adaptation of Seuss work but add's another learn by adding a musical number which show just how horrifying the concept of something like the Atom Boomb is.

Overall one of the best Seuss book and a fantastic animated short! It's very sad it's so undertated...

Best thing they did with Smurfs in a long, long time
20 October 2013
Im a fan of the original Smurf comics and I did enjoy Hanna-Barbera show growing up. This being said... I didn't care much for the new CGI/live action movies. They failed to capture the spirit of the comic books and the idea to sent Smurfs to the modern times simply felt like a cheap excuse for product placement and toilet humor. It's just another example of cashing on nostalgia...

This animated short however was a pleasant surprise!

The story was cute and did a good job capturing the spirit of the old cartoons. There was no force pop-cultural humor, it was just Smurf doing what Smurfs do best.

The traditional animation was done very well(I especially liked the way they animated Gargamel) The backgrounds made whole thing very enjoyable to watch thanks to the colors of the autumn setting.

Overall it was a cute Halloween special and more hearth went into it then both CGI movies combine... I honestly would love if they made entire animated series if it was this good.

Would work better as a comedy
12 October 2013
With all respect to Walensa - I honestly think this movie would work better as a comedy. The subplot with Walesna wife as well some comedic one-liners are the most enjoyable things about this movie.

There's just isn't much to it. The movie spent more time "talking" about what great man Walensa is rather then "SHOWING" it. I think they did an excellent job of showing what colorful character he is but at the same times movie doesn't spent much time to have you feel what struggles hes going trough. His just "There". It simply lack emotions and there is something anti-climatic about the way it ends.

When the movie ended I truly felt I've only seen 1/3 of a movie. Some good moments and an excellent cast but as a whole nothing special...

After Lucia (2012)

GREAT with some serious problems
5 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this in Polish cinema the other day. In many ways "Después de Lucia" is the ultimate movie about school bullying.

The parts that focus around the student Alejadra being tormented by her classmates are incredibly cruel and get more and more hard and to watch. It's just depressing how a bunch of children can destroy another person life just for "fun" but at the same time it's so realistic it's almost scary. Very powerful and moving. Then when the movie turns into a dark revenge fantasy at the end it's very satisfying to watch.

I won't spoil it but something horrible happens to one of the bullies and some people where almost clapping in the cinema happy that he got what he deserve but at the same time it was very disturbing moment...

However while the 2/3 of the movie is just great the fist 1/3 is one of the most boring movie experience I ever had. The dialog is bad, characters warent all that interesting and the way the action moves was slow as a snail... I wish somebody would edit-out about 20 minutes of 1st act and get to the good stuff.

I'm happy I saw it but I'm sad to say that the 1st act truly hurt the movie... Still a solid recommendation on my part!

I was surprise how much I enjoy it
3 February 2013
Now this is the only documentary by JR (acording to Imdbs any way) and I must admit I was pleasantly surprise and I wish there where more. The strongest part is the cinematography - I'm not a big fan of fast forward techniques but here it used to a great effect and made the whole experience much more enjoyable. All shots are amazing, spectacular and very original! One problem is the story... which to be honest could very well be told in 20 minutes. It's just series of interviews stretch together... Which could are all interesting on their own and the images that are shown on the way are great however it never felt like it building up to some big revile or conclusion. Still the who thing is inspiring enough to give this movie a very positive grade - it's inspired me as a filmmaker and as a human being...

Just sad... in a bad way...
7 December 2012
I've seen this movie about three-four times over the years on different occasion and I find it just more and more unpleasant. The movie tries to be a commentary about Poland but sadly when all of you're commentary focuses only on negatives it come out more as a propaganda then a satire. It's just feels way to manipulative for me. Yes Polish society have problems but the way movie hammers in the messages is just painful to watch. To make it worse - it's just not that funny. Most observations are pretty obvious so there is nothing really new.

Another problem is the main hero which I had hard time to relate to. Much like the movie he only focuses on negative things in his life which once again makes him not very sympathetic character. Both the hero and the script writer comes out as whinny and people who just can't enjoy life for a single moment and if your message is that all people in Poland are this way I can't agree or give the movie any respect. It lost me early on and 2-3 funny moments aren't enough to win me back especially is most of so called is just vulgar...

So... Asteirx is gay now? Seriously?
9 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I will be honest - as a Asterix fan I have very mix fillings about this one.

For most part it's fun. There are some very clever jokes, I like all the stuff with stereotypical stiff Brtitish people which is incredibly funny...

Sadly there where some parts which just felt forced and felt out-off place for Asterix series. There is entire subplot about Asterix being upset about the fact people consider him an Obelix gay since they are two man living together (which wasn't the case in the comic book btw) In result Asterix starts hitting on every girl he meets which is so out-off character for him and is more confusing then funny.

There are some changes that where just distracting for Asterix fans(Asterix and Anticlimax aren't related anymore, the Look-out pirate is now white not Afro-American like in the books, Anticlimax is turn into a real jerk an Getafix the druid doesn't' appear which is supper odd) and some scenes taken from the book felt glance over so director could play with his own ideas which are sadly hit or miss.

The plot gets all-over the place in the second act. It's just loses any sense of urgency and concentrated more on subplots, many of which are sadly underdeveloped.

Over all the movie has a big share of moments and I consider it the second best of Asterix live action films right after "Asterix and Obelix meets Cleopatra" but I admit some parts are forced and that weird "Asterix is self-hating gay" part almost ruined the movie for me...

Mulan II (2004 Video)
7/10
This would be a good TV pilot but it makes a bland sequel
8 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie dosen't work much a sequel to "Mulan" (which is one my favorite Disney movies).

While the first had an epic plot, this one is very simple - in fact it's almost a sitcom setup. We only get one bigger action scene in the third act and the rest of the movie is character developing their relations as they travel from point "A" to point "B". We get more Mulan/Shang relation, we get romance between three warriors and Emperors daughters (new character) and more Mushu/Mulan relations... In fact it's almost like a romantic comedy set in ancient China.

And I will be honest - if this was the pilot for "MULAN THE ANIMATION SERIES" (or "MULAN'S VALENTINE DAY SPECIAL") I would enjoy it.

True the animation is far from movie standards but it's still pretty darn good. All the characters relation stuff are sweet (especialy all the stuff between the warriors and the princesses) and interesting, few scenes made me laugh and I actually like the songs.

So yhe, this movie isn't how a sequel should be made but if you love those characters you may actually find this interesting and enjoyable.

The only thing I didn't like is the fact that they made the ancestor ghosts characters less sympathetic and Mulan doesn't get to shine like she did in the fist movie (the lack of the whole "pretend to be a boy" aspect was what made here fun was the best thing about her in the first movie and we don't get this at all in this one... they just talk abut it)

If yore Christian this movie is our version of "Birth of the nation"
5 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I love Buñuel. In fact I consider his other two movies of his "Silvia Pinal" trilogy masterpieces ("The Exterminating Angel" is among my favorite movies of all times) not to mention the fantastic "Un Chien Andalou". Now I don't mind a movie with a anti-religious message despite of being a very religious person myself (heck, I enjoy things like "South Park", "Life of Brian" or as mentioned other of Buñuel movies), however I find some points Buñuel tries to make to shown how flaw Christianity in "Viridiana" delivered in a pretty poor manner.

"Ow, look she tries to help out some people because the bible tell her to do so but they get drunk and try to rape here so this must mean's Christianity is wrong" Seriously, what kind of argument is this? It has a much sense as making a movie about an atheist who at the end gets hit by a truck and having creator at the end jump out and yell "See? See? This is why atheism is wrong" Im sorry Mr. Buñuel, I love you but that's barley a reasonable argument (if not childish) and I find the scene of burning Jesus crown (depsite of very strong symbolism) in a pretty poor taste.

It's still a very interesting and well put together movie to watch, even if not good as some other of Buñuel's work. In fact I think Christians need movies like that since thy argue for Satan but overall I just don't find it among Buñuel's best!

A perfect movie for children!
31 August 2012
I've seen the previews two Tinker Bell movies and by far this one is the best.

This is how movies for young children should be made - yes it has adventures, fantasy creatures and magic, but at the same time the focuse is about the relation between a little girl and her father who dosen't aprove her to believe in faeries and magic. It's very ratable, sweet and charming, as well the bond between Tinker Bell and little girl.

There are actually some funny jokes when it comes down to humor which is 100% safe for kids (no shock value) and it's great to see a film that dosen't really on pop-culture reference which is rare this day.

Animation is good, characters are sympathetic, it's charming and has more then one good message for the kids.

If you have kid between 4 and 7 they will love it! P.S. It's good to see Vidia becoming a good character :) In first movie she was almost a villain so the fact she evolves into much more positive character not only makes her more 3-dimentional but I think it's good for kids when you can have a very nasty character turn for better :)

Dark Shadows (2012)

Is it wrong of me to like this movie?
29 May 2012
I will be honest - off all the Tim Burton projects during the last decade this was the one I had little to no interest. I didn't seen the original soap opera and "Burton is making a vampire movie" didn't sounded like left-over idea. All reviews I hear where bad and I only went to see this out of principal "Ok, I can't talk bad about this movie until I seen it"

And to be honest - At first It was a pleasant surprise! The first 40 minutes did a excellent job of introducing the world as well building up the dark atmosphere. There was so humor now and then but overall it was pretty good.

But then the movie got a bit flat and what I really hated was the love story! They spent like 20 minutes introducing Victoria character but after that there is little to no of here in the movie, and she has only like two scenes with Barnabas so it's hard to buy the whole romance between the two. The only thing that was making movie good was Eva Green character which was totally Psyco (and Deep as well)

But then the movie reach the climax and... It got cool again! The entire final fight was so dark and insane but campy at the same time it was hard not to enjoy it!

Overall one of weakest of Burton films but it has it moments. Some of the characters are fun (especially Eva Green) and I LOVE visuals during the final scene, to be honest worth of the ticket price.

A surprising, good movie
26 May 2012
I saw this movie today and It's really, really hard to say to what wasn't said before. This is just a perfect movie. A simple story about a poor black guy taking care of old paralyze man. It's simple, sweet and at moments very, very funny. The actor who plays Driss makes excellent job by portraying character as street-wise and amusing. It's just a short of person who you would want to hang-out with from the very first second.

Some of my favorite parts are the comedy which often take you off-gourd but drama is perfect as well. There where few small moments when movie felt manipulative (playing sad music in a scene that otherwise would be happy moments)but my only honest complain is the fact that the movie Driss doesn't look a thing as the historical one, and the fact that they show the footage of actual Driss during the credits doesn't help much.

Popeye (1980)
3/10
Interesting movie... but sadly a bad one
20 May 2012
There are few things I must give the movie credit for

1) The actors resemble the characters 100%, especially Olive Oyl was simply perfect. 2) I like the fact it was base more on the original comic strip since it was way richer then the cartoon ever was and it manage to capture some of the spirit of those stories

Sadly as a over-all experience this movie was simply horrible! There where few good jokes now and then but their either spoiled by bad timing or they simply didn't have the money for better special effects and most of the visual gags looks simply bad. Much of the Popeye's dialog is hard to heard. Im not sure is it editing fault since I can see this movie work on paper but much of the scenes simply look bad from the story telling point of few. The musical numbers are just getting worse and worse. One exception is the song "I yam what I yam" with felt OK but that's about it.

I guess it has cult fallowing and you may enjoy it if love watching incredible bad films but overall it as bad it can get. Still three stars for few good points I mentioned in the beginning.

I'm surprise how GOOD it was..!
19 May 2012
Before I saw this movie I was strongly skeptical.

First of all "Nicholas" while being one of top 10 children books ever made... Have no storyline. It's just series of very funny but very short stories center around a group little French boys. There's no adventures or perils – just amusing anecdotes from every day life of Nicholas and his friends.

Second of all the books was written by Rene Goscinny. A French author most know for his comic books "Asterix" and "Lucky Luke". While those are some of the most delightful peaces of graphic novels I ever read I sadly must admit they where butchered during the last decades with some horrible, horrible adaptations (with few exceptions, second Asterix movie was pretty good) "Nicholas" being a hard material to adapt already felt like a bad idea, and the fact so many of Goscinny's work was made into terrible movies wasn't a sing they will treat it with a proper respect. To be honest making "Nicholas" into a movie felt like going pretty low to get some money from his creation. When I was a kid I dreamed of Asterix being made into a movie even back there Nicholas felt like a absurd idea.

The third reason I know it won't work was the fact it was a children movie. Obviously it wouldn't work in any different way but the fact is Nicholas stories never had morals or life lessons. In fact stories where pretty cynical. A lot of humor came from the fact that Nicholas pals would get into fist fights very quickly. The kids would call each other names all the time and Nicholas parents would fight and argue all the time. It was part of the charm, however we live now in the age of Political correctness so I was sure they will tone down the violence, make it more sugary sweet/cute and ad some morals…

To my big surprise… Non of those problems appear in the movie! The script makes a excellent combination of different Nicholas stories and stay true to the characters and their personalities and in fact spends a lot of time playing with the character and their personalities. I like this type of movies as you never feels the plot rushing you just enjoy the ride and individual time spent with each character. The humor is great. It uses a lot of lines from the book but ads a lot of jokes… and I must say It actually gets pretty dark at moments. I don't got to much into detail since some of the biggest laugh-out-loud jokes come from the black humor. The kids actor where fantastic and where cast very well reflecting different personalities from the book. There is even a sequence which is a homage to Goscinny's other work (Asterix) as well a cute paper-cut-out opening sequence which is a tribute to Sempe – the illustrator. In a way it was very much like the book. Just collection of small anecdotes but tide into a larger story at the same time which build up to a terrific and incredible funny punch line. The ending is in fact very sweet and heath worming without being off-character for the series.

My only complains are total nitpicks. Some characters where completely different (fiscally) that the way I imagine them in the books (especially Nicholas parents) but the actors manage to make them work in their own way. Few characters (girl that's Nicholas love interest or the next door neighbor) felt to be forced into the script just because "they where in the books" and their scenes serve no purpos other then showing those characters for the fans. There was maybe one or two gags that where completely off-character for the series as well few small moments that don't make sense in any translation out-side of France.

Overall It's surprisingly fun movie both adults and kids will enjoy. One of best adaptations of Goscinny's works!

Fritz the Cat (1972)
6/10
Not bad, fun at moments until last 20 minutes
15 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I just re watched this movie after reading the complete Robert Crump's Fritz the Cat comic book.

At first I was skeptical – It's never a good way to start the movie with showing a character pee an a person even in a raunchy one but I guess it was the creators way of saying "No, this is not for kids", since an animated movie NOT for children was something new back then… Actually I must give the movie some credit for being the first one to do it. I guess it's easy to criticize this movie today since we all scene stuff like this in "South Par", "Family Guy" or "Drawn Together" so there is nothing shocking about this kind of stuff anymore.

Any way after first five minutes I was actually starting to like the movie. While all the raunchy humor was done much better in the books (more tasteful in a way) the movie had still some good, unique atmosphere to it and I like the way it mixed different Fritz the Cat stories. Yhe, the sex stuff was over the top, I didn't care much for the two pig police man who try way to hard to be funny and I would prefer if some of the action scenes where more like in the book - simple. Still the movie had some great mod and abstract atmosphere, some of the new humor made me chuckle (for example the scene of three student girls talking with the African-American crow and trying to impress him how much liberal they are while he just stand their silent) and while not the best of Ralph Bakshi films I was still growing to like it…

Then we got to the last third and the Fuzz Bunny character was re- introduce. Here I will start with the SPOILERS for both the book and the movie. Well, in the book the whole point was – students are idiots! They do nothing but smoke path, drink, have sex all the time and talk pseudo- philosophical stuff that have no impact on the world whatsoever… In the book there is a point where Fritz meet his friend Fuzz who join some sort of a liberal anarchist movement who is planning to blowup the bridge. It's not some scary, sinister organization. It's just four idiots sitting in a room and talk how their hate rich people and want to rebel. Fritz and Fuzz attempt to blow-up the bridge but they screw it up acting completely clues about the situation. This was one of my favorite part of the book and comedy came out from the way those guys where nonchalant abut their whole terrorist plot. While Craps book satires liberal students it didn't picture them as evil, simply as misguided and full of ambitions that lead nowhere. But sadly, while the first 3/4 of the movie is pretty faithful to events in the book, when it get to this part if becomes the flip side of the coin. Fuzz is no longer an streetwise guy, now he's some psychotic, sadistic drug user named Blue. The group of pseudo-philosophical students lead by some insane hippy guy turns into a dark religious cult located on a cemetery with sinister looking members and even use some Fascist symbolism. Fritz is no longer suppose to blow-up the bridge with his buddy but instead is meant to blow-up the nuclear power plant with an female lizard character who turn out to be truly evil and In the end Fritz changes his mind about the whole thing. Not only it takes a very comedic story and turn it into something scary and violent, but it demonize the radical left wing students. Maybe Bakshis point was to make the whole thing more dramatic to provide an exiting climax but for me not only it's completely ruins the spirit of the book but it feels to be out-of character for the movie as well.

Overall I enjoy parts of it and I still find this movie to be an interesting , unique and artistic interesting experience but if you're fan of the book you maybe strongly disappointed by the ending. It was just way off-character for Fritz universe...

Top Cat (2011)
8/10
A good homage to the original show fans will like
14 May 2012
Top Cat is by far my favorite Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The humor was clever, especially the verbal stuff between T.C. and...who ever he was tricking at the moment, the gang of cats was fun (my favorite was Cho- cho) and I love the mood it had. It's one of those kids show I actually found myself to appreciate more as adult just for how smart it was.

While the first few five-ten minutes made ma go "Meh" , as soon the gang was reintroduce the movie actually become quite good. It's a very basic story but it those an excellent job of recapturing the spirit and the humor of the original show. All characters where… well, in character, and some of the English voice actors where dead-on perfect (especially T.C., Dibble and Benny) There where some great absurd jokes, some good Simpson-style gags that take you off gourd and play with a viewer expectation, as well some small twists and in-jokes for the fans of the original TV show (I especially love the part In the middle where Cho-cho become new leader of the gang and they spoof the opening credits with the gang recapturing all of the Top Cats tricks and felling miserably)

Yhe, the animation in this movie is far from cinematic standards but it was it's still enjoyable to watch (to be honest I was having flash-backs from computer game "UFO'S" which had identical bland of 3D and flash animation) What surprise me is the fact I actually liked the villain. When I saw this guy in the trailer for the first time I was sure I will hate this character. He was just so generic… But no! Most the jokes about how vain and angry he was actually worked an I liked how over the top he got with his plot.

I only have few nitpicks with the movie :

– I wish there where more Top-Cat/Dibble interaction. For me the hate/love relationship between the two was the heath of the show and while here their both 100% in character there's not that much dialog between the two. I wish they would had a longer scene where T.C. somehow tricks or scams Dibble. I guess it doesn't matter if your fan of the show since your already know their history together but if your new to these characters you will won't fell any friendship or relation between this two. – The show had a wonderful New York atmosphere (mainly thanks to the jazzy sound track and great backgrounds) Here It could take place in any other city. I just wish they would kept the background closer to resembling those on the show. – Cho-Cho's voice didn't sound like the original character… I wouldn't even bother to bring this up if not for the fact that they did such a great job of recapturing all other characters voices so well. – Trixie was a very generic/cliché sympathetic girl and a love interest for Top-Cat which makes here very bland comparing to the rest of the cast. This is more of personal pet pea. I just hate when they introduce a main female character and have no idea for her personality other then the fact she's a female, especially since all the feline fame fatal's from the show usually hat a lot of character. Heck! Fancy's girlfriend who appears in two short scenes appear to be way more funny and interesting… – There was one or two grow-out jokes that didn't felt in the spirit of the cartoon;

But those are just nitpicks. Over all – if you a Top Cat fan and you would love see those characters again in action then this movie should be good nostalgia trip for you, and to be honest this movie was made ONLY for Top Cat fans and you can sense the passion script writers had for the original show. Heck! I found it better then "Top Cat and Beverly Hills Cats" which felt like 20 minute of plot stretch to hour and a half. Here ad lead they had ideas and jokes to feel this time. However if your not a Top Cat fan… It's just a OK cartoon but It will entertain you . Watching this I actually wish the same guys would do another Top-Cat remake show, as the movie did manage to add some fresh light without making it too modern.

8/10 should be a fair score

This takes me back!
17 August 2011
I will be honest. As somebody who grow up with A..A. Milne books, I'm not a fan of what Disney was doing with the Pooh during the last decade. I didn't care much for all the new Pooh movies and CGI show where they made Pooh and Tigger "super detecives" was simply wrong.

This movie however is the second best thing Disney studio did with Pooh since the original "Many adventures of..." movie.

The plot is simple, charming and strongly in the spirit of the original books. The humor is especially strong i this one. It made adults laugh as much as the kids, simply by being very clever and unpredictable. No pop-culture references or toilet humor we see a lot today. The good old 2D animation is back as wheel and It make you wish for more movies to be animated this way. Lets face it - CGI is getting old very fast. I like that it didn't try to top the "Hephalumps and Woozels" psychedelic music number from the old Pooh movie, but instead the sequences like part where Pooh dreams a whole world made of honey or the scene where characters imagine the monster Backson but there are original and visually fresh.

The best thing I like about it is how much the style remind me of old Disney movies, not just the old Pooh film, but other classic animations like "Robin Hood", "The Sword in the Stone" or "The Aristocats".

Today all movies move very fast, each scene is less then two-minutes long and you can feel the rush the way their trying to make the plot move as fast as possible from one plot point to the next one.

This movie is like the old days. It moves have no reason to rush. It moves slow but in most enjoyable way, giving plenty of time to play with the characters, situation humor and the dialogs.

My favorite part is the pit scene with Pigglet getting on poor Rabbits nerves. You don't mind how long it is since it's gets more and more funny every second, and the punch-line with the Owl on the end is so funny I almost had tears in my eyes from laughter.

I strongly recommend this movie and hope for more similar projects in the near future...

Alice in Wonderland (I) (2010)
8/10
Far from perfect but I enjoy most of it
13 August 2011
While I had fun when I saw the movie in cinema I would lie If I would say I think it is as half good as most of Tim Burton movies.

One of main problem its the plot. I don't mind the idea of Alice returning to wonderland and re-facing all the events in those books but here it turn into your typical fantasy scenario : There is a prophecy that the main heroine has to kill a monster, she don't want to do it, have some adventures, change her mind, do her job... adventure over. Yhe, we seen it a hundred times.

The second big problem is that its not Trippe enough. IT'S TIM BURTON and ALICE IN WONDERLAND! It's connection should create a bizzar mind blowing acid trip. But no. He play it safe. We get few terrific visuals now and then and I which exception of the Mad Hatter visually this must be the most faithful "Alice in Wondelrand" but not as big acid trip people would expect from the mind of Tim Burton.

I guess since it was a Disney movie so it must by family friendly.

One last problem - the main heroin is so stiff. I think it was meant to be contrast with more wacky character but while they where ad least interesting she was pretty bland for most of the movie.

Compering to other Tim Burton films it probably third or forth weakest, but at the same time the kids will love it and there are few scenes and character you will probably enjoy. So yhe - its not as bad people say but its not masterpiece.

Miracle of a movie!
6 August 2011
After "Tripplets of Bellvile" (which is my favorite animated movie of all time) I was hungry for more of Sylvian Chomet unique world...

Thankfully I've soon found "The Old lady and the pigeons"! A movie set in the same universe and with the same charm and grotesque of the "Tripplets". Its short but but it will make you want watch it over and over again (over and over) Its very hard to describe this story without ruining for you as all of movie elements connect together in a wonderful way and story is building in a very oryginal way you never seen beafore. In fact this movie has "oryginal" written all over. Just trust me when I say - if you enjoy Tripplets or have a dark sense of humor you will enjoy this one very much!

WHY THEY Don't MAKE MORE MOVIES LIKE THIS is a riddle to me...

As a "Harpo stand alone movie" this picture works. Harpo gets way more screen time then in any of the Marx brothers movies (he is in fact the main protagonist) and he is as funny as usual.

Sadly as a "Marx Brothers" movie it works poorly. Chico play much smaller role then usual and don't have nothing funny to do (there is a callback to the Ice-cream scene in "Day at the races" which came out like a poor attempt to get a chip laugh) and Groucho is for about 10 minutes all together, and you can tell his character was force into the script so it would had all three Marx brother. In fact there isn't a single scene with all three of them and Groucho nearly interacts with his brothers. Big mistake.

If your a Marx Brother fan Its simply distracting and I think it would work way better as a Harpo solo movie (like "A girl in every port" was for Groucho), but at the same time I must admit it was entertaining and Harpo made me smile... as usual :)

You will have a ball wit this one!
6 August 2011
I didn't seen this movie since I was very young, but after I revisit it I was surprised how quickly this become one of my favorite musical movies of all time!

It so pleasant and relaxing, both plot and the songs ("Well, Did You Evah!" is my favorite, but "Who wants to be a millionaire" and the opening Calypso by Louis Armstrong himself aren't fast behind) and characters grown on you very fast, especially Dexter-Haven played on a Bing Crosby. Grace Kelly character is a bit unsympathetic but you will love to hate her.

What more I can say? Fun musical comedy you will feel in love very, very fast!

To be honest not bad for first Asterix movie
6 August 2011
The movie has two main problems : - Jokes will mainly entertain the children, not much for adults - The "Obelix in love" subplot is played serious and not for comedy like in the books and the facts its ends with a downer, with the girl telling Obelix "Whe should just stay friends" after he save the entire village... What kind of horrible massage is that for the children?

However on the plus side... - The cast is great (especialy Roberto Benigni)and most of supporting cast do a great job playing the characters from the books - Some scenes like the fish fight and fight with the Romans are like strait out of the book - The music is great and over all for most part the movie is entertaining to watch

While its far from good it not bad and younger Asterix fans will love it

Fellini at his best!!!
6 August 2011
Well my review will not add anything new but I will write another one any way!

WHAT A FANTASTIC STORY!!! Sad but beautiful LA STRADA is one of Fellinis greatest movies (if not the best one). Gelsomina is a great, fun and charming character (what a amazing actress by the way, shes like Italian Charli Chaplin or Harpo Marx) and unlike people often mistake she is *NOT* retarded but a simple person unfamiliar with the evils of the world, but full of wonder and thinking with her hearth. I strongly recommend this movie to any fan of good cinema!

Im just sad that they don't do movies like this any more... to bad!

Bad... sadly
6 August 2011
After great example of "Asterix and Obelix Mission Kleopatra" I was hoping that the next Asterix movie will be as good if not better. When I saw the trailer the visuals and special effects for this one look amazing and I was happy to see it base on one of the best Asterix books...

Sadly all the hope gone very quickly, as while looking pretty this movie field when it came down to the script.

The story barley fallows the book. It use few ideas and thats it. All cleverness and satire is throw away in place of a Cliché love story I've seen million times before. What worst for a title character Asterix dose little in the movie (and I don't care much for the new actor who is playing him) Instead movie focus on the new characters either the lovers who aren't that interesting or the main villain Brutus who's simply annoying and gets way too much screen time.

Jokes are either gags that will entertain the youngest of children or simply forced jokes like the Star Wars reference that barley made any sense. The only thing I like about it is the actor who played Cesar but pare-up with the annoying Brutus he don't get to much chance to shine.

Over all worst of all Asterix movies and a big wast of time and money.

Mulan (1998)

A VERY underrated Disney classic
6 August 2011
This is one of my favorite Disney animated movie! It's not as cutesy as many of the Disney princess movies are - It's about a war of all things and for a change the main heroine is not a princess but a strong female role model. Clever and brave but at the same time clumsy and silly at the moments. The massage is strong and works on many levels, and it has some great dramatic moments (especially the sequence when Mulan escape from home is build pretty powerful, some best music I heard in a Disney movie) however what work best is the comedy. After "Emperor New Grove" I find it to be the funny-est of all Disney films. Comedy with Mulan pretending to be a man and all the camp scenes are hilarious and just getting funner and funner. I also enjoy Eddie Murphy who while may look annoying at first he quickly turns into a very lovable and comedic characters. To be honest all characters are great and even those who have few lines are very memorable. The villain lives a impression as well.

Plus how great to see a Disney movie that doesn't focus on a love story. There is a romance element to it, but it's quick and handle mostly for comedic effect.

And what crime would it be to not mention the animation - it's great as usual!

If you haven't seen this one I strongly recommend it to you! Next to "The Fox and the hound" the most underrated Disney movie.
