The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)

A moment to lose oneself in

I don't really know if I can add anything to the many great reviews already made, but I still felt the need to add my own opinion, so here goes; It is a stunning yet serene and thoroughly memorable movie, and much like many Ghibli movies of the past it touched me quite deeply. The animation is (as expected) a far cry from the usual computer animated 'junk' we see in newer anime, and the music makes me want to instantly order the soundtrack. Regarding the story, it is not very fast-paced or overly dramatic. Rather, it is relaxing or even peaceful while still managing to become almost mysteriously involving. By the end of it I even got a little teary-eyed as I wished it could have 'lingered' a bit longer.

All in all it is certainly a moment in time well worth losing oneself in!

One Piece (1999– )

Simply the best

So, where to begin... Well, I'll try to keep this short and to the point: If you are a fan of anime in general, or like a good adventure and don't mind that it's animated (seriously, some people...) then for all that is holy, please do not miss this series! It is quite simply the best, and in all categories (more or less), because it has pretty much everything and in ample amounts; Comedy, Drama, Action, Suspense, and of course lots and lots of Adventure.

Perhaps best of all is that it's not episodic in the least, yet despite that is outrageously long (currently on episode 536 and still going strong), how they manage it is beyond me but it actually just keeps on getting better!! If I had to describe this series using only one word, it would be "Epic" because of the scope and because any series that can suck me in and keep me spellbound for so long (as I'm quite picky and easily get tired of series I find repetitive or otherwise unengaging) must be a work of genius. I cannot praise it enough!

In closing, let me just ask once more that you do yourself a favor and give this series a try, and please; Whatever you do avoid the Dub. Peace!

The Smurfs (2011)

Seriously, why all the negativity?

Please people, some objectivity... A movie that does not conform to your personal tastes need not automatically be rated 1 or 2, a rating which I'd take to mean that it is just about the worst kind of crap you have ever laid eyes on (unless of course you really think it is in which case I'd recommend you to "broaden your cinematic horizons", but most people tend to exaggerate their opinions based on their emotional bias).

This is a children's movie, plain and simple, although admittedly a mediocre one in comparison to some of the truly great children's movies. As such there are certainly things about this movie that could have been handled in a more satisfying manner. One positive thing I can mention is the fact that it does not try to be anything but what it is.

Now, I may of course be wrong... It has been a very long time since I were in a position to give any accurate recommendations to the age group targeted by this movie. However, I must admit that what is left of the child within did find parts of it rather entertaining! :)

Game of Thrones (2011–2019)

Brought tears to my eyes

Let me first state that I have not read the books, so any and all of my opinions are solely based on this series.

So, what do I think of it? Well, to be honest I think it is the best TV series I have ever seen in my currently 33 years of life! I admit that I might be a little biased as I usually have a thing for the "fantasy" genre, but I guarantee that anyone who feels that way will absolutely love this. I have only seen up to episode 6 as of this review, and I will not make any comments about the characters or the story, as I do not want to introduce any spoilers, but so far the quality of this series (in everything) is just breathtaking. I could not be happier!
