Misogynist (2013)
This Movie Was Terrible
The other reviews giving it 10 stars are clearly written by the filmmakers to give it some gusto. What is wrong with these people?
Make no mistake, this movie is absolutely horrible. It is terribly filmed, terribly acted, terribly plotted. The cover and description are interesting, so I decided to check it out, what a bummer!
I felt like I was watching something a high schooler threw together on his twenty year old computer. I am absolutely not kidding - no sarcasm - it is actually that bad. This is genuinely something I would expect to be thrown together in a middle schooler's bedroom, using free software.
There is no plot. There's a big "twist" ending that makes very little sense, and leaves you angry that you wasted over an hour of your time. What these people were thinking is baffling to me.
No joke, this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's movies like this that have me convinced I could move to Hollywood with ZERO filmmaking experience and make a million. Seriously, how did this movie even get printed onto a DVD and distributed?
Absolute unequivocal garbage. Don't waste your time.
Going Deep (2010)
HIlarious
I started watching Going Deep with Kassem G about two years ago on YouTube. All of the episodes are absolutely hilarious and are very intelligent in their delivery. Fantastic YouTube show. I don't understand how he convinces these semi-famous porn stars to get on his YouTube show. I just wish he would make more of an effort to create more episodes; they are some of the funniest on YouTube by a long shot.
If you like watching porn stars get absolutely ridiculed in a very clever and hilarious way, then you'll love this show. Occasionally one of his guests are just as witty as him, and fight back very well.
Very enjoyable.
House at the End of the Street (2012)
Good Movie, Nothing Amazing
Just watched "House at the End of the Street."
It was very good. The whole story makes you think you are watching a horror film, which you sort-of are, but not.
It follows a girl who moves into a new house in the middle of Nowhere, USA. She meets new friends, and a new friend who is weird and edgy. He had a traumatic childhood, since his sister brutally murdered their Mom & Dad. Most of the story is spent trying to figure out what is up with his sister, and will she go on a murderous rampage?
It's another mind twister type movie, so you are kept guessing for most of the movie. The twists are not over-the-top, they are subtle, and do make sense for the story. The twists are not pretentious, in other words. There was only one segment (about five minutes worth) that were totally unrealistic for "real" people's actions; I am referring to the college kids who go nuts. But it's easily forgiven since the rest of the plot is enjoyable.
It is enjoyable, but cliché. The stupid girl in the movie makes all the typical actions you would expect a stupid girl in a horror/thriller to make. She looks through peepholes and then decides to go in, and I'm fairly certain that her big fat tits were a plot driver. The cliché is tired, to a degree, but it is normal for a movie like this; so we can forgive it.
All I'm trying to say is that this movie is not bad, but it isn't amazing, either.
For the cinematography, most of it is shot in a "horror" fashion, blue lenses are used to make the woods seem cold. The filmmakers made a seriously huge mistake in using the "Red One" camera. If your budget is 6.9 million dollars, I think we can spring for an Arriflex 35mm camera. With that said, it was hard to tell that this movie was digital, since they obviously ran it through color saturation programs to give it the "film" look. But why do double the work just to make it look like something it's not?
The score is nothing special.
Movie references; I didn't notice a whole lot. But I can almost guarantee that "Sleepaway Camp" was the inspiration for this movie to be made. If you haven't watched "Sleepaway Camp," then good; you won't know what I'm talking about. If you have seen it, then I am more than certain you have already figured this movie out.
Breaking Point (1975)
Okay Film
I enjoyed this film, somewhat. The story is about a misogynist who goes on a female-hating rampage; with hardcore sex scenes in between. This film is definitely a porno - but with somewhat of a story behind it.
I was irritated at how slow the film moved; it moved way too slow, some focused shots were completely useless & added nothing to the film, and so on. The story could have been great, but it wasn't.
I did like this movie, though. I didn't enjoy it completely, but it was worth watching. It was especially worth watching since copies of this movie are so hard to come by. Other good things about it include the cinematography; which was not great for the entire length of the film, but had moments of good, classic 70s cheesy fast-zooms, follows, etc. I did enjoy the cinematography; for the most part.
The film is in English, which I was completely surprised by; not that it matters, since there is probably 30 actual words spoken in the entire length of the film.
The hardcore pornography was comical at best. Somewhat of a spoiler: The part that I had heard about - the part where the "prostitute" has sex with the gear-shift of his car, is not true. She actually rubs her genitals on the tip of the gearshift; no real "weird sex" type stuff in this film, at all. The sex is not simulated; it is real. This is a real porno, but with a storyline behind it.
If you can get a copy of it, I suggest picking it up. I ordered mine on DVD (it was the company's last one), which came as a burnt DVD that simply said "Breaking Point" on it. After searching enough, I found what could make a DVD cover; so I made a DVD cover, and label from it, that way it could go next to "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" in my collection.
The Happening (2008)
For the Intelligent
This film was made, without a doubt, for the scientifically minded. The majority of reviews by people who do not like this film, I would be willing to guess, have an ignorance of science in general.
This film has spectacular cinematography, very good acting, the occasional joke and mildly odd characters; everything you need to make a decent movie. What makes this movie particularly scary, however, is the realistic plot. If you need giant flashy robots destroying the world on screen to make a disaster movie, then maybe your attention span should be examined. This film is made for the intellectuals.
Intellectually, this film is as scary as it gets; of course this exact plot probably wouldn't happen, but it's not a bad guess as a possibility (not a probability) of what could happen. The only thing that bothered me at the end of this film, though, was the lack of explanation as to what caused the disaster in the first place. However, after thinking about it, if the director were to offer an explanation in the film, it would have ruined everything; an explanation would have been too cheesy, fake, and improbable for the situation.
This is genuinely a good movie, but I believe that you need to posses more than a few braincells to enjoy it completely - go watch "War of the Worlds" if you are one with a short attention span.
