Tore (2023)
Raw and gritty take on young gay man's pain
This is an absolute standout on Netflix. I started this show on a Sunday morning, wanting to only watch one episode while having breakfast, but I ended up binging the entire series in one go. It's that perfect symbiosis of drama and comedy that only very few shows manage to pull off. I laughed out loud one second, cried the next. What's best about this series is that it feels very real but also not too over the top and cheesy like most US Netflix dramas. Tore might be self-harming and selfish, but that's a very realistic depiction of someone that is hurting. Drug abuse and partying as a form of escapism might work for a while but it also drags you down an even deeper hole.
This show has the power to heal it's viewers, thank you so much for that.
Everything Now (2023)
Honest and raw
An honest look at what struggling with an eating disorder does to human relationships. Even if the main character might be a tad annoying at times, the other characters make up for it. Would love more episodes from their perspective (like Skins), really enjoyed the episode that focused on the little brother. The inspiration from Euphoria is undeniable (could have sworn the score is also Lab) but I don't think that's a bad thing. Looking forward to more seasons, I think there is a lot of potential. This show is so much more than just a fantasy, so much more than just another fix. It is everything now.
Gossip Girl (2021)
More clever, diverse, and sexy than the original.
Absolutely hooked on the new Gossip Girl. It's so fascinating to see how the writers took the premise of the old series - which was way ahead of its time in 2007 pre-Instagram - and adapt it to this new (online) world. Revealing the identity of GG in the first ten minutes is a clever twist, no one cared about that anyways in the original and the reveal in the end was so poorly executed it kinda ruined the series. Can't WAIT to see where this is going. Xoxo.
Genera+ion (2021)
Feels raw and real
Visually stunning and emotionally challenging take on teen angst and the troubling lives of teenagers.
