Forged in Fire (2015)
Once my favourite show...
I loved this dhow do much, i was addicted to it. Unfortunately History Channel is really good to squeeze the juice out.
What has happened?
It started to go downhill as History decided to re-run the same episodes again and again.
I still came back and still find myself longing for Forged and Fire.
Long story short, they recently aired the new season and boy is it a let down.
Wil Willis might have set the bar high but even if he did not do so intentionally.
The new host has the chemistry of a butcher.
Horrible.
Legendary Locations (2017)
Great - Expedition Unknown without the Drama!
I stumbled into Josh Gates incidentally by watching Expedition Unknown. Initially very interesting, though the highly scripted, formulaic and repetitive nature was letting me down.
This series explores interesting locations or history, but without all the staged scenes which is very refreshing.
You might get less eye candy but more content and staging, it has more a documentary nature instead of Reality TV which is often not real.
Give this one a try even if you did not like Expedition Unknown for the reasons outlined.
Storage Wars (2010)
How stupid does History think their viewers are?
I started watching this when Barry (the collector) was still part of it, he had a unique style and humour. But since he is retired it lost the majority of it's flair. But the real reason that I give such a low rating is tge fact that all is fake, the investors are indeed actors. What annoyed me even more, how stupid does the History channel think the average viewer is? Most telling example: Mary from the spin off (Storage Wars Texas) is now only to see on the main show which is in California. Even as a European I know that it takes almost 24h by car from Texas to California? Who would do that? The gasoline would eat up all the profit. At the same time she is no longer attending auctions in her home state Texas. She was obviously promoted and the fact that she lives in Texas is as real as everything else. It's an insult to the human brain.
Replicas (2018)
Brilliant
I don't get the poor reviews but perception is projection and everyone see's something different in a movie. I rarely finish movies as I am often bored after 15 minutes. Most movies nowadays are "Replicas" of existing ones, rarely you see something new under the sun. If you know this feeling then this is a movie for you. There are no cliches or stereotypes, the story is unique and unpredictable. If you can stop your mind chatter (how unrealistic) and just lean back and experience it you will be glued to your seat. I am not repeating the content as many have already do e so. Just wanted to add my 5 cents, especially die to all the bad reviews. In my opinion it is a stellar movie and I loved every second of it.
Dolphin Tale (2011)
Incredibly Touching and Beautiful
Dolphin Tale tells you the true story of Winter, a female dolphin who loses her tail during an accident with a cage and a group of people who help her to survive and get her back to "normal".
Throughout the entire film I was struggling to hold back my tears...actually I cannot recall having ever been so touched by "just a movie". But then again, this is not "just a movie", it is a film based on real story and it resembles it pretty close. The dolphin in this film is not just some kind of "actor dolphin" combined with computer animated graphics in order to cover the tail...no, this dolphin is the real Winter who actually had this accident.
I was blown away by this film. When watching this with the right frame of mind, it can have such a deep, profound and touching influence,it is simply amazing. This film really warms your heart and can give so much positivity. When I found out that this is actually based on a real story I was blown away and I came to this conclusion: As long as these things are happening on our planet we still have hope.
For some moments, I thought I could sense the awareness and gratefulness in the dolphin's eyes...seconds later I was thinking my emotions are just driving me mad.
However, this is a magnificent story, and the real beauty of this is: It's a real story. I highly really recommend anyone to view this, it has the power to change your outlook on life...so it did in my case.
I am so grateful to the producers who created this film.
Thank you and god bless.
