I'll Follow You Down (2013)
Slow moving
I was hoping for so much more. I love the idea of time travel and all of the effects it from it. But honestly, they could have easily sped this movie up. I felt drained waiting for the punchline. The movie could have been so much better. I gave it a 5 for being ehhhhh. Average. If this was simply a Thumbs Up or Down, I would give it a Thumbs Up. It's watchable. If you do watch it, do some laundry too....
The Invisible Man (2020)
Surprise....
I am hard to please. This movie was much better than I expected....especially considering some of the bad reviews, The method was clever. It's a MOVIE, by the way.... it was entertaining and it met the objective.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Call nostalgia. Interesting but not great.
As a guy in his late 50s, the nostalgia in this movie is very well done. It is interesting how Quentin Tarantino fictionalized real places, events and people. I enjoyed the movie however I guess I was expecting more. It is a good movie but I kept waiting for that "wow" moment. Some of the more critical reviews are probably written by younger viewers. The time frame authenticity of this movie is incredible. Everything done in this movie looks exactly like the timeframe, sounds like the time frame and even advertisements and background details that most young people will mess is detailed very very well. The movie is definitely worth a look for people born before 1965. I was not expecting so many real events altered with much different outcomes. Tarantino threw a curveball that most young people will absolutely miss.
Stan & Ollie (2018)
Better than expected
As a man near 60 years of age, not only have I been a fan of the movies of Laurel & Hardy since childhood I have read many different biographies about them. I am very happy that a movie was made with a genuine effort to keep the story concise, focused and relatively accurate. In addition, the HUGE surprise was how good the acting was. Because John C Reilly has co-starred with Will Farrell, I was expecting Reilly to act "over the top" much like Farrell does in his movies. I know I shouldn't, but sometimes your mind makes certain connections that give you terrible assumptions. In my opinion, between the two roles of the main characters, the Oliver Hardy part would be much more difficult to pull off with authenticity. I cannot overstate the great job Reilly did! Everything, from his voice to his off camera mannerisms was superb. I'm sure he will get ignored in respect for awards, however I believe his performance is much deserving. There is so much more excellent details that is peppered throughout the movie that most viewers will simply miss. I will keep this review short. (Anytime I look at movie reviews written by us "laypeople", I typically stay away from LONG written reviews.) The summary is this, Stan & Ollie is excellent, even if you know very little about them. They were Trail Blazers when comedy movies started including sound.
