Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Total crap
This is such a bad movie. Not bad good. Bad bad. The plot is ridiculous. The acting is cartoonish and the action is SO dumb. If you have any other option, ANY other movie, you should choose the other movie. Trust me. If you are not 12 years or younger, or have a child's mind, you will not enjoy this mindless stupidity. The fact that this vomit fest cost a ridiculous 200 million dollars is just insane. WTF?!! I don't know what's more scary, that someone in the business can read the script for this muscle and guns party and go "Yeah bro, right on man, i'll put in 200 million dollars on this movie, yeah!". Or the fact that the movie earned 60 million dollars in 4 days....... Vomit.
By the way, Dwayne, no one ever told you about over exposure? I wouldn't mind seeing ANYONE else in a big budget leading role!
Mute (2018)
What the....?
This was a HUGE disappointment. One would expect a somewhat good movie on the grounds of who co wrote and directed this movie, Duncan Jones.
Duncan Jones first movie, except from a short, was Moon. A great movie that won him a lot of awards, and every person with knowledge of movies would forever remember the name of Duncan Jones because of Moon. His second movie was Source Code, a good and well crafted movie. Warcraft was his third movie. A disappointing box office haul and mixed reviews for Warcraft. The planned sequel is on hold, indefinitely.
I think all the previous movies has something special in them, and i enjoyed watching them. Moon is a very good movie, and definitely the best Duncan Jones has made. On the other side of the spectrum we find "Mute". This is the worst movie from Duncan Jones, by far. The story is a mess, and I just don't get it. It's an attempt on sci fi noir i believe. The only thing bright in this boring and messy movie is Paul Rudd, who steals every scene he is in. It wouldn't have been a Cinema movie, but straight to DVD if it wasn't for Netflix. If you have other options, i would stay away from this movie.
Ears, Open. Eyeballs, Click. (2005)
A film that show the audience the disgusting behavior of the officers in charge of training in boot camp
The film is like being a fly on the wall in an American military boot camp. It is pretty straight forward, but edited to a documentary masterpiece.
It shows the inhumane conditions at boot camp. The insults and verbal attacks, which is government sanctioned program. And it is disgusting. That way of training soldiers are not the way to train human beings, no matter what their job is. They are never going to yell a lot in combat. Or take a lot of insults in combat, so why train them that way!? Makes no sense.
I have been in the army, the Norwegian army. The Norwegian special forces are seen on some of the very best soldiers in the world. I was no very good soldier, but i wasn't yelled at, or talked down too once in the 3 months i was in the army before i was medically discharged from service. I can't understand what the reason for the yelling, and talking down to cadets are anything but being a bully. I told you that i wasn't a very good soldier, but they never yelled or talked down to, 50 days later, i was platoon leader. so without the bully tactic they use all day long in US military, i grew into a good soldier, fast. In Norway we respect the young man or woman even if they are in boot camp. They don't get the treatment like they are children just because they are in boot camp. They get respect. But if you make a mistake several times, they don't get in your face and act out in front of fellow soldiers. They take extra time out for the soldier who has trouble getting something, and they go through it until the soldier gets it. And that doesn't happen very often. They are such good teachers, that only the lesser smart soldiers need attention.
I think it's sad to watch the fresh soldiers get treated like cattle, like deaf cattle. Are there no one who has seen the scene in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, where a soldier can't take the abuse in boot camp no more, so he kills Gny.Sgt. Hartman and then himself!??
Dryads - Girls Don't Cry (2015)
A real original film for and about music. Inspired by a true story about a local indie rock band
Watching this movie, i could not not move my body to the cool music and the use of the music to play a part of the story. To have been apart of the original "Dryads", and the gang around the band, i recognized several scenes, like it was from my memory. The movie and it's use of music as tool to push the narration reminded me of the work of Danny Boyle. It was cool, and very cool. In the real life "Dryads" was only boys. No girl was ever apart of the band or the gang, but in the movie, "Dryads", is only girls except "Thomas", played by Allan Hyde from "True Blood". The acting is very natural, very good movie acting, and i guess the young first time feature movie director Sten Hellevig had something to do with that. It's a solid movie, that doesn't play it "safe", but do things that hasn't been done before in a Norwegian movie. It is 90 minutes watching a fun movie and but within the 90 minutes you get great music as well, so it's almost 2 for 1. The Cinematography is beautiful and organically done by Marius Matzow Gulbrandsen. And as mentioned before, the actors made it all real by natural acting, directed by first time movie director Sten Hellevig. Mr. Hellevig has a very bright future as a movie director, that is for sure. The real life "Dryads" and the entourage was way more arrogant and dismissal of others then shown in the movie. As the only band playing music inspired by "Charlatans", "Ride", "Stone Roses", "Blur" in 1992-1995/96(Later on the band was more inspired by prog rock, like old "Genesis","Supertramp", "Jeff Lynne" and "Led Zeppelin" to name a few.), the "Dryads" gang had a sense of entitlement, by KNOWING they played the only cool music in Norway. The movie is set in 2015, and only a couple of songs from Thom Hell(a former member), and Henrik Moy Askildsen(founder of the band and the music writer). The bulk of the music in the movie was written by a friend from before the movie, Marius Christiansen.
Several of key members of the film crew has experienced partying with "Dryads" and "the gang", in the 90ties.
As i have expressed with this review, this movie is worth the time and the money to go see. Take a look inside the creation of a band and friendships like never before.
Hollow Man (2000)
It could have been so much more...
The Movie had a weak script. The core of the story is a compelling story, but with bad plot outlines and weak action, the movie just does not do it for me. Why have heat vision goggles, looking for an invisible man, if you just gone put them on when something is happening. I would believe that a frightened scientists, who's afraid for their lives would glue the glasses on, never to lose attention to what's around them at all time. The scene where Sarah is locked in the room with Sebastian is so stupid. She gets all the time in the world to rip up the bags of blood and cover the floor with it, just for the illusion of tension and for the effects, when common sense tells you that a smart and murder crazy Sebastian would have ran up to Sarah before she opened the first bag of blood, and jumped her. The whole sequence is so bad. The scene where Carter is lifted up by his neck by a pipe crawling Sebastian is also pretty bad. As far as i know about the story, Sebastian does not get super strong from taking the serum, just invisible (and f..... mental). The effects in the movie are one of the few positive things about the movie. They really did a good job creating an invisible Kevin Bacon, and the transformation scenes are breathtaking. The actors did a good job with what they had to work with, Kevin Bacon is always great and Josh Brolin is solid. I'm a huge fan of Paul Verhoeven, so this was a disappointment.
