If I Stay (2014)
I'm sorry Chloë - but this was underwhelming
First I'll have to say that I'm a big Chloë Grace Moretz fan. And shes the only reason I considered watching this movie. Her acting has always been top notch. And you can really see that this is a girl that works hard to stay that way. But,
The step from a child to adult is a hard one for every actor and actress. The things that was really good a couple of years ago, is not impressing anymore. You have to evolve, or you'll end your career as an A-star.
In this movie she showed the first bit of weakness when it comes to facial expressions. In a life changing moment, she often turns to wrinkle her nose or open her mouth slightly. Its not good enough, and frankly, its a little bit disappointing.
I'll say this. I think it could be cos of inadequate directing. Cause we all know what ms. Moretz can do when she's led in the right direction. Like her few scenes in The Equalizer, so we know shes still got it.
I don't have much to say about the movie. Other than its a generic teen drama with an existential theme that The Fault In Our Stars made so much better use of. But then again, this movie was not made for me, so I understand the people that find this enjoyable.
Hoping for a Chloe that still brings the crisp acting to a screen that is worn down by mediocrity. I'm sure she'll find the right way eventually.
Hick (2011)
This is a good film - don't be fooled by the low rating
Whats with all the crap this movie has to deal with, review vise? The acting is very strong, the writing is decent and the direction is solid. Overall a good film, which tells the tale of a young girl and her struggles to change her situation.
Stop being such a bunch of prudes. Cause yeah - when a young girl and her dawning sexuality is portrayed in any way(In this movie it wasn't exploitative in any sense of the imagination), its called perverted and dirty fantasies. But god damn, its the reality we're living in.
And either way - if you can't stand the theme personally, judge the movie for its technicality, and stop pulling a movie down just because you're struggling with the morality of it.
Jamesy Boy (2014)
Just terrible
I usually like prison flicks, but this, jeez. Where do I begin. The movie skips back and forward with nothing but the awful artificial aging as a clue. And age yes, its a problem. He is suppose to play an fourteen year old in the flashbacks. Ehm, no. Just no. I don't believe it. And neither should you.
Nothing is believable. The gang members are not scary. The cringe-worthy mom-son scenes are, well cringe-worthy. And the love story are so extremely shallow.
So in conclusion. Bad acting. Bad casting. Bad writing. Bad directing. Bad movie. If we add that the real James Burns never changed for the better, and still lives hustling and steeling another day, its really no reason for anyone to watch this crap.
Dexter: Make Your Own Kind of Music (2013)
I don't like where this is heading
This season has been like a roller coaster ride. The start was a bit shaky. Then we get our thrills. Spiraling downwards and then up again. But the ending is always disappointing. You feel that it should be more to it.
I'm a big fan of the show. But I hate the direction Dexter is heading. He has become so damn docile. It's not fun anymore, the Dexter we knew was intelligent. Now he's just dumb, and you just want to bury your head in your hands while watching this numskull doing the same mistakes over and over again. Oh god indeed Dexter.
I actually liked Zach. I thought he, after a bad start, turned out quite interesting. But in pure Dexter style, when harmony shows, it quickly turns deadly. But by doing that, the writers killed off the only new character with a bit of flare and persona.
We are now stuck with Vogel. Her son. And Elway. One of these will end this magnificent show. But either of them are worth it. Prepare for mediocre.
Now You See Me (2013)
Abracadabra, you've just lost 115 minutes of your life
Where do I begin. Oh yeah, that I had big hopes for this movie. I'am a big fan of The Prestige, and somewhat hoped that this would feature the same depth and substance. But oh boy was I wrong.
The magic is lazy. The story is so action driven that you think you're watching Die hard. As such the cliché riddled plot is actually not there at all. Aside from the clichés of course. And if that wasn't bad enough, the twist is just pathetic.
After watching this movie I guess you feel the same way as when a magic trick has been reviled.
Disappointed, ashamed, repulsed and the feeling of blatantly being deceived.
Can I get my money back please?
