M*A*S*H: The Price (1979)
Henry Morgan out acts the rest
I'm not sure its because I lost my father a few years ago, but the more I watch Mr Morgans performances the more I realise what great men some of the pre war generation were.
In this episode he gives up his beloved horse Sophie, so an ex Korean commander turned laundry man can find respect and die in peace. Henry Morgan does nothing more than hood his eyes as his character sees a fellow old soldier, same age, same rank, same love of horses and realises "there but the grace of god"
Its a performance to behold and I truly love the repeats I just wish Comedy Central would loose the laughter track
Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! (2012)
Awful
I enjoyed the original film, so after a glut of stereotypical Hallmark TV Christmas films thought I'd treat my better half to an afternoon at the cinema.
Big Big mistake, this has to be the worst film I've ever wasted money on, If anybody employs Marc Wooton in the future they are either certifiable or are trying a producer style filming a flop scam.
I would love to say its so bad its good but its just awful.
It made me long for Sky's Christmas 24 channel, " a grandpa for Christmas" is a masterpiece compared to this tripe
As a touch of trivia Martin Freeman got the role of Watson in "Sherlock" beating Matt Smith who went on to play "Dr Who" who replaced "David Tennant, who replaced Martin Freeman in this. Tennant got the worst of the deal.
M*A*S*H: Pressure Points (1982)
A tour De force from Sherman T
Just finishing watching this simple but compelling episode.
Colonel Potter fears he's loosing his surgical touch after leaving some shrapnel in patient, and calls in (my personal favourite character) Sydney Freedman to " look at the cobwebs in the colonels attic"
The 3 swamp rats take a back seat and provide a little light relief doing a 3 stooges homage, while Harry Morgan steals the show in every respect, his fear of growing older, loosing his surgeons skills, being human are touching beyond compare.
I've no idea if Mr Morgan ever received recognition for his portrayal, if not it's a crime.
The New Avengers: Obsession (1977)
Interesting casting
Not a classic episode of the New Agengers by any means. Steed and Gambit take a back seat as Purdy is in romantic mode. The story is Padding for a series that didn't really find its way. Interesting for pairing "Lewis Collins" and "Martin Shaw" in a Pre "Professionals" outing as the bad guys."Collins" is the surely hard man and "Shaw" is "Purdy's" ex paramour all love lorn and out for revenge. Maybe Shaw has the better acting chops than Collins. But at least Collins gets to say in his last line to Shaw "maybe we can work together again sometime" Fortuneate script or a knowing nod to the the future classic Bodie and Doyle combo? 6 out 10 for nerd value
Being Human: Pilot (2008)
Written for another cast
Stop me if you've heard this one,Dracula The Wolfman and Casper the ghost walk in to a bar...............
OK not quite but taking a slightly over used premise of vampire taking the "black ribbon" and wishing to loose his blood sucking nature. Add to it a lycanphropic best mate, mix in a touch of 70's kids show "rent'a'ghost" put in a contemporary setting you have "Being Human" Not clever enough to be a rom-zom-com not scary enough to be given a late night cult Clearly written for David Thewliss,Danny Dyer and Jane Horricks but the cast do a reasonable impression not bad just not that good.
