The Wheel of Time (2021)
Let down
Seeing as I've read this series of book multiple times over the many many years it took to release them all, I find it impossible to be completely objective. The world in the books is massive with hundreds of characters. I believe this series was set up for failure as it would take a major budget to do it justice. That being said, I don't like all the changes they've made to the story and characters. They've cut a lot of corners and simplified major parts of the story I'm sure due to budget and time restrictions. The personalities of the show characters are far from the personalities from the book characters and many of the back stories and current plot lines have been completely changed up...and not for the better. I groan through every episode that I watch. I can't turn away now though. It's like watching the scene of a car wreck. I tried.
Terra Nova (2011)
Decent fare for kids but has nothing to offer to intelligent adults
Interesting concept, but I wasn't pulled in. This show feels as if it should be on ABC Family. That's my strongest, initial reaction. Fox, how can you axe quality shows and then order up this? Seriously? I wanted it to feel more gritty along the lines of the new Battlestar Galactica. Fringe is scifi, Fox. Terra Nova feels like 70's Land of the Lost but with some blood and gadgets thrown in. The highlight is Stephen Lang as the commander, but I liked him better in Avatar. I agree with other reviews: cookie cutter, cliché, uninteresting characters, etc. This series feels as if it's aimed towards teenagers and younger children. As an intelligent SciFi minded adult, this series does nothing for me. I give this show 3 weeks tops. Wow I should be a FOX exec. :D
The Smurfs (2011)
It's a kids movie, people, not Shakespeare.
I took my 6 yr old daughter to see The Smurfs and she loved it. She laughed and she giggled. The thought Gargamel was especially entertaining and I have to agree. Hank Azaria does a wonderful job as the villain. She wasn't frightened in the least at any time. I'd say the movie was at least for the 6 yr old crowd and older. I just don't believe anyone younger would be interested in the movie.
To the adults who are saying this movie is crap, a waste of time, boring, idiotic, etc....I say CHILL OUT. It's a kids movie...end of story. Good lord. I only went because my little girl wanted to see it. If you go to it expecting an Oscar contender then you have other issues you need to deal with. Seriously.
