R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned (2022)
Fun Entertainment
It pains me to say that I found this more entertaining than the first. But I did.
Jeffery Donovan walked a fine line, keeping his arrogant character charming and likable. There was just enough character development in the main characters to keep them from being flat. All of the actors gave good performances. Humorous rapport and witticisms were well-placed and didn't bog down the straight-forward story-telling.
Set in 1876, it was a prequel to the first movie. Learning a little bit about Roy's early days in the department was nice because I felt he was the stronger character in the first R. I. P. D. movie. This movie ticked all my boxes. It was entertaining, well- acted, had solid special effects and tight story.
The Land That Time Forgot (2009)
As Expected,
It was not up to the book or very much like the Burroughs novel. As expected, it wasn't as good as the 1974 movie of the same title. However, I was moderately entertained for an hour and a half. Admittedly, I like these low-budget adventure movies where everyone realizes they're making bank not art.
It worked for me.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Splendid
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed the horror genre as much as I enjoyed The Haunting of Bly Manor. It was a good, old-fashioned, long-form gothic ghost story, Over the course of the series, personal stories are told as the characters are revealed and minor mysteries are uncovered as the main story plays out. The pace is measured but consistent almost to the end as the story builds up to final two episodes - where it really picks up.
