i cannot believe this movie was rated so low. I have only seen one other of roger corman's films, and that is Bucket of Blood which i did like (rated it 7 out of 10) but i found the wasp woman to be way more enjoyable. judging for what it was, a low budget black and white creature feature, i rated this a 10 out of 10 for its excellent soundtrack, and the character Janet Starlin. so now, i can't wait to get into the next roger corman film. i also like how the scientist that was portrayed as crazy to everybody in the film, but then showing the audience that he actually wasn't so out there. this director has not failed to disappoint me. if you are a fan of the fly then you will surely be fond of this movie.

this movie had some interesting strangeness to it but it could have been better.

some of the things i favored about the movie was the creative way it showed that the bondage woman was the person causing all the mischief. however, it doesn't really explain why. there is really no explanation why the main character photographer was possessed by a witch.
some other thing that caught my eye was the symbolism in her dreams... perhaps showing her guilt for causing things to happen (in the dream for instance, she punches out her friend in a boxing rink). some of the scenes reminds me of something David lynch would put into his movie.
furthermore, some things are left unexplained like the hole and the nazis. maybe the hole symbolizing PLOT holes in the movie? hah.

but all in all, the movie had little substance. it's basically just a movie about a pretty woman photographer that gets possessed by a witch (and we do not know why the witch is doing that) and they add some strange symbolism to explain her feelings.

Hiruko the Goblin

Mix a typical creature movie with Tsukamoto madness and add cheesy characters and you have Hiruko the Goblin.
Don't watch this movie expecting anything serious like Tetsuo or Tokyo Fist. This Tsukamoto movie was an offbeat comedy with some strange horror effects. The soundtrack seemed as though it doesn't fit with parts of the movie either, and the characters needed more development.
However, the craziness was still there, and Tsukamoto's camera angles, lighting, and color were all there. I'm glad I have this DVD in my collection since I am a big Tsukamoto Shinya fan.
I give it 6.5/10

i'm surprised this movie has gotton so low ratings. yeah it was a little long but the additional violent telekinetic stuff around the ending made up for it, and angela bettis was such a great actress in this. the mother's role was also played well.

this movie was awful and boring, and this is said from a person who loves to watch many what other people would call 'boring' sundance films. first of all, i was expecting way more gore. there was barely any. it didn't start out to bad at the beginning since there were yakuzas acting sort of funny but then it went downhill from when the main characters went into the factory.
this movie was dull. i hate to rate a movie so low, 4/10 but i just had to. out of all the asian horror cinema i have seen, this is by far the worst.

at first viewing, this was such a great flick (even when it was pretty slow at points). i loved the originality in this movie and was opted to show my friends. max von sydow (exorcist, 7th seal) had a very good performance.
at second viewing i thought they were going to get bored of it, but maybe they didn't because they were trying to figure some things out. i already knew everything so it was kind of a drag for me. this movie is from the same director as 'abre los ojos' (open your eyes) and that is on my list of top 3 movies.

this was a great movie, for being so short of a movie! i've seen this one 2 or 3 times and it doesn't get old. for the budget that this movie looks like it had, it was excellent. my favorite character was the preacher, with his obnoxious southern preaching and his dancing for the lord, haha. i just wish all troma movies were like this one (if only sgt kabuki man was as short as this one, it would have probably been good). highly recommended and it doesn't even take long to watch.

this movie has it all (except maybe horror and sci-fi) it has the action, suspence, drama. this movie is very unpredictable and with such a good soundtrack, the movie has got to be one of the funnest movies to watch ever. i've seen this movie 4 or 5 times. i can't get enough of it. this is one of those movies you can watch over and over again. (and for me there are not too many movies that are like that).
franka potente (as always) was an excellent actress in this, and what a task she had, to run and run to make it on time. franka is my favorite actress. i liked her in all the movies that she was in (anatomy, princess and the warrior, minority report). this movie was definitely fast past the whole way through and this movie explores the questions of fate, and shows how just one second can make a tremendous difference in the world.
as for the director, tom tyker, this is his best movie. i've seen his other ones: princess and the warrior, and heaven. even though princess and the warrior wasn't as good as run lola run, it was still a really good movie.

this movie is on my top 3 movie list and because of this movie's excellent storyline and ability to make me pay so much absolute attention. all the acting was superb.
this movie will make you think long after it is finished. it sure is a mind-screw. this movie has got to have the biggest twist any movie has ever had. for any sci-fi fan, drama fan, or even strange cyberpunk movie fan, watch this movie. you will not regret it. though it may be likely if you havn't seen this one yet that you would have already seen vanilla sky, but the original i hold as the best one even though vanilla sky wasn't that bad at all of a remake.

the problem with this movie was that some of the same sort of funny things done in the movie got old. yeah they were funny at first but then after a while it got to be old. i'm sure this would have been a great comedy movie if it was just shortened 25 to 50%. i give it 6/10

ah man this movie was funny as hell, yet strange. i like how they kept the shakespearian language in this movie, it just felt ironic because of how idiotic the movie really was. this movie has got to be one of troma's best movies. highly recommended for some senseless fun!

i have watched this movie 4 times and it would still be fun to watch! and this is one of those movies that are great to watch with a group friends because there would be laughter all the way through. i wonder how different the braindead version of the movie is because i have the Dead Alive vesion which still says uncut but i heard braindead had more scenes in it. plus, in my unrated dead alive version that i got from a major store, i notice that it was missing the part where the intestine/colon checks himself out in the mirror. the only reason i went ahead and bought the dead alive version instead of braindead online was because braindead was not region 1, and i don't happen to have an all regional dvd player. the normal dead alive version, however, was fun nonetheless.

i have a poster of this movie hanging in my room. this is one of those movies that will make you feel weird while watching it and will stay with you even after you watch it (well it did to me anyway). at the beginning the movie catches your attention but then goes pretty slow from there. you must have much patience because it sort of is a slow-paced movie. i did like the way the strangeness just kept on getting worse as it kept on going. angela bettis plays her role extremely well. she did it so well, that i was also inclined to buy that stephen king remake: carrie, which she also had an excellent performance in.
another good thing about this movie was the soundtrack. it was independent artists instead of chart artists. there is one thing for sure, this movie is way different than any other movie i've seen. The closest it could get to any movie would probably be Maniac because of the finding body parts to make or fulfill a doll/mannequin. Though, this movie has better crafted character development and a better crafted storyline. this is a good movie. watch it!

this movie was very much like i expected it from the trailer. fight scenes were so fast paced and creative. this is a must watch and the ending was excellent. i need to see the director's other movies like chinese ghost story I and II (since i've heard good things about those too)

this has got to be one of the funniest horror comedy movies ever. the acting was all excellent, the scenarios were all original and it was just fun all the way through. if you haven't watched this yet, then do so. i could easily watch this movie again. the tokyo shock version is a pretty quality version to have.
