Velma (2023)
Great animation, terrible comedy
Velma promised to be a comedy with relatable and lovable characters, but unfortunately falls short of its mark. The main character, Velma, is overly concerned with the race and class of her peers and puts them down every chance she gets. The humor is mean-spirited and not funny, leaving the viewer feeling uncomfortable rather than entertained.
One of the major issues with Velma is the way it approaches sensitive topics such as race and socioeconomic status. Rather than handling these subjects with nuance and understanding, the show takes a cheap shot at marginalized groups and perpetuates harmful stereotypes. This not only makes the show difficult to watch, but also sends the wrong message to viewers.
Furthermore, the jokes in Velma simply do not land. The humor feels forced and falls flat, leaving the audience unamused. The show's attempts at comedy often come across as insensitive and offensive, rather than clever and relatable.
Despite the shortcomings in its writing and humor, Velma does have one redeeming quality: the animation is well done. The characters are well-designed and the backgrounds are colorful and detailed. However, this alone is not enough to save the show from its detrimental flaws.
Overall, Velma is a disappointment. The show's attempts at comedy fall flat and its approach to sensitive subjects is harmful and offensive. While the animation is well done, it is not enough to make up for the show's shortcomings. I would not recommend watching Velma.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Is actually a solid start
Not sure why people are giving it the low reviews, it's stronger than game of thrones beginning. It'll take a season for high fantasy to get it's footing. People are going to look back and realize how wrong they were. The characters are solid but time will make you care for them more. There's a lot of potential in this show, just needs time to build up. Second episode is already way better than the first episode. Looking forward to the third episode.
I'm just happy we're getting lord of the things again. And it's with new characters rather than nostalgia to hype up something. We don't need nostalgia to make a show good.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
Perfect ending for Saul Goodman
I think the ending fits the show's themes beautifully. Contrast to Walter White, Saul is leveled character and this ending's glimpses of redemption paint a happier less melancholy outlook than I had imagined.
The House (2022)
Love these
Great animation, compelling stories. Highly recommend Netflix make more. Each of the three stories offers unique perspectives on horror that I enjoyed.
Malignant (2021)
Such a refreshingly fun movie!
Best horror movie in the past decade. Genre defining!
Holly it was good.
Breaking Bad: To'hajiilee (2013)
Out Heisenberg Heisenberg
What a ride! This season just keeps getting better and better. To'hajiilee was fantastic. For the first time ever we see the tables turn against Walter. Before this, Walt was always able to come up with smart and creative ways to find solutions to his problems, but this time he was trapped. Unable to become victorious, and helplessly watch as the drastic events unfolded without being able to even lift a finger really shows the role switch portrayed in this episode.
Hank was fantastic. Devising a plan at par to what Heisenberg usually comes up which emphasizes the desire he has to take Walt down.
We've seen this before. Once. In crawl space, Walt was fearing for his life, and felt helpless for a while. Since the outcome of this event is still unknown, and the best is yet to come, Heisenberg might just grab the ledge at the end of the cliff, create a convoluted plan that just might save his behind from all this chaos.
As Vince best put it, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
