Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (2015)
Very Re-watchable
I have watched this anime multiple times. Really, I have nothing negative to say about it. It's one of the cleanest anime out there so I feel like I can recommend it to anyone. So much fun and it's sweet and optimistic. Also, lots of fangirl squealing from me. The prince/love interest looks like a fantasy version of Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians, and that is a huge win for me.
Akatsuki no Yona (2014)
One of my Favorite Animes, Read the Manga to Continue the Story
I need season 2! This show stops around the equivalent of volume 8 or 9 in the manga. The manga is still being written.
If you like mythology, strong characters, lots of emotions, and hilarious banter, you may enjoy this anime.
The Book Thief (2013)
Faithful Adaptation of the Book
Of course they had to leave out a few things that are in the book, but the tone and characters and story is true to the book.
I love that John Williams did the score!
This is a heart-wrenching, beautiful film.
Violet Evergarden (2018)
One of my Favorite Animes
This anime has everything that I love in it: Emotions, steampunk, it's clean and not too gory, and it's deep and cathartic.
This is a masterfully written anime. I have watched season 1 and have not yet watched the movie, but I want to.
The Chosen (2017)
Stands out among Gospel Narratives
When I first heard about this show, I thought it was just another gospel adaptation and thought it wouldn't be much different than what I've already seen.
After hearing a friend talk excitedly about it, I got curious and watched the first episode.
At the end of episode 1, I cried. That was when I knew there was something powerful about this show. The further I got into the show, the more it drew me in. I grew up with these Bible stories, but this show brings them new emotional depth and power for today's world.
The creators take creative liberties with the source material, there was one line someone says that I felt was not characteristic, but otherwise, the heart of the gospel is here, it's strong, and what they have done really brings the gospel to life in an emotional, authentic, human way. I love how they have developed the characters. The one character that felt slightly off to me was John the Baptist. The script is well-written and pulls cultural context in that helps viewers understand the context of each story better.
I highly recommend this show to anyone who is interested in it.
