Squirm (1976)
Surprisingly good
I found this movie to be surprisingly good. I saw it first when it was on Mystery Science Theater 3000 being made fun of by Mike and the 'bots. A few years after that, I saw it listed on Encore Mystery, I believe, and decided to watch it, just for fun. I found it very watchable and pretty creepy in its original version and bought my own copy.
The movie begins with a major storm in Fly Creek, Georgia that knocks down some power lines. The power lines send electricity into the ground causing the worms to come up above the ground at night and eat people. Mick, a kind of nerdy guy with a hobby of antiquing met Geri, a thin redhead, at a point prior to the film. Roger, a creepy redneck guy, apparently had the hots for Geri and is jealous of Mick.
What really stands out is the atmosphere, which remains suspenseful throughout. Some scenes not included in the MST3K version are a couple of nude scenes by Geri, Mick and Alma, Geri's sister, smoking pot together, worms burrowing into Roger's face and Roger's worm riddled body crawling up the stairs to attack Mick again.
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (1964)
Terrible movie.
This movie features Ray Dennis Steckler as Cash Flagg as Jerry, who is a whiny, jobless, balding teen, who is apparently a "rebel".
It begins with a doughy salesman being seduced by the be-warted stereotyped gypsy Madame Estrella. Unfortunately, he doesn't want to sleep with her and she pours a poison on his face that makes him a disfigured zombie. Then a manly dancer(played by RDS's wife)walks in and sets off a killing spree as Estrella and Ortega(who is apparently disfigured as well, she just keeps him around, rather than in the basement.) tries to keep it quiet.
They hypnotize Jerry and make him commit murders and have drug-trippy dreams.
Other highlights are white people dressed in African garbs in whiteface, crappy singing at a half-dozen points(enjoy the off-key folk singer), and a mumbled incoherent song in the background as he walks home.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)
The Greatest TV show ever
It was my favorite TV show from the time I heard of it at the beginning of season seven and I recorded every episode that I could.
It consists of a man(Originally Joel Robinson, played by Joel Hodgson, with Mike Nelson as Mike Nelson replacing him midway through the fifth season) and two Robots, Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo. There are also the 'bots Gypsy who runs things on the ship, but makes fun of only part of one movie, and Cambot, who is almost never shown, except in the opening credits and a handful of other times. Joel was sent into space as an experiment by the Mads, Clayton Forrester, and TV's Frank. They torture him in a plan to take over the world by showing him Cheesy movies.
The show is totally unique in its premises, and consists of Joel/Mike, Crow and Tom making fun of the cheesy movies. The show is incredibly hilarious, and gives some of the worst movies ever made a good roasting. Movies like Manos: The Hands of Fate, Beast of Yucca Flats, Werewolf, and The Invasion of the Neptune Men are some of the movies mocked in the show.
Beyond the Wall of Sleep (2006)
One of the worst movies I've seen.
Simply terrible, one of the worst movies I've seen, and I've seen several of the worst Mystery Science Theatre 3000 movies non-MST'd, like "Manos: The Hands of Fate" and "Beast of Yucca Flats".
It bares very little resemblance to the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name, other than the name of the patient, Joe Slaader, and the location. Of course that means it follows the story as well as most other "Based on H.P. Lovecraft's" movies, but that isn't saying much. The sound is weird and echos throughout the movie. The acting was horrible, it would be difficult to find a movie where everybody overacted that much. The special effects are of 80's quality or worse. One guy even thinks he is all-powerful because he is the head honcho of a mental institution. If you're looking for a good "Based on H.P. Lovecraft's" movie, try "Dagon", it is much better than this movie, even though it's not exactly high-quality.
The Final Sacrifice (1990)
Not as bad as comments suggest.
I thought that this movie wasnt all that bad, It does have a plot. decent acting and likable characters. I've never seen the original of the film but I have to say I wouldnt mind watching it. about the only major complaint was cheap sets, but they made up for low budget with mostly outdoor scenes anyway.
