Men (2022)
Not one you'll forget - Worth a watch
I watched the film last night, and I was not disappointed.
The acting is excellent, the visuals are stunning.
However, I think it will definitely be a marmite film. There are some great creepy moments and many strange things that left me pleasantly surprised.
I have to agree with some reviews that the ending was a bit of a head scratcher. What did it really mean?
Reviewers have their opinions, many of which differ and I have my own thoughts.
What I would say is watch it. There are some great horror visuals that will stick in your mind. Make your own mind up and enjoy the journey along the way.
The Sandman (2022)
A good start but..
Really enjoyed the first four or five episodes.
However, there were too many unnecessary storylines and characters that lead to rest of the series into a bit of a mess.
I thought the acting was good as were some of the visuals.
"Could have been a contender!"
Lair (2021)
Starts well then rapidly goes downhill
Reading the other reviews, I guess it's each to their own but I thought the acting was wooden, the storyline was tripe.
There's nothing convincing about this one. Even the "Posh" swearing was unrealistic.
At least it was free!
Prey (2022)
Disappointing but not as bad as the last one
Very slow to get going and not really worth the wait.
Decent acting, nice cinematography but it plods along with the same old predator references.
Some decent action scenes but it's a long wait to get there.
I'm a big fan of the predator franchise but it's another poor effort.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Fading by season 2
I did like the first series. A bit slow in places but enjoyable, nevertheless.
Patrick Stewart is a fine actor, loved him in TNG (and as Scrooge in Christmas carol)
I looked forward to season 2. What a disappointment.
The storyline is poor and some of the characters are woeful.
I can't help but notice the political correctness mob have their hands all over this, as with most TV these days and my numerous eye rolls led me to stop watching season 2 for now.
I might endure it, who knows, but not for now.
Demonic (2021)
Ok to start...Downhill after that
I was disappointed with this one.
Looked ok to begin but the story is full of holes and some barmy decision making by the mail lead.
An original idea I suppose but I was left shaking my head after realising how dire the story became.
Don't bother.
Archive 81 (2022)
Not bad at all, stick with it
I really liked it! It is something a bit different that the usual Netflix garbage of late.
Ok, some of the acting is a little shabby at times but the storyline is good. Things become clearer as the show progresses so there may be times you feel it should skip a step but stick with it.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
How this is highly rated, I don't know
If you're a fan of the original Dexter you may find this show disappointing.
Plot holes galore, very predictable and too many annoying appearances from Dexters dead Sis adds to the gloom.
Shame TV executives are just plain lazy rebooting once great shows.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Shockingly poor
I'm a fan of the franchise, and I sat in the cinema full of anticipation.
Unfortunately, it is a shocking rehash and most definitely the worst one of the lot. The storyline is poor and none of the supporting characters were really likeable.
Not enough Agents either for my liking.
I'm not exaggerating when I say people walked out of the cinema.
Such a shame, please don't make another one.
Malignant (2021)
Average
Struggled a bit with this film, mostly due to the uneven sound. Quiet talking and loud music.
Not bad overall but I'm glad I only paid a fiver on Amazon to watch it.
The Pebble and the Boy (2021)
Mod film, nope!
As an old mod, I looked forward to this.
However, Quadrophenia it isn't. Not even near it. Neither is it a future cult classic. It's a pretty average film. The acting isn't too bad for the most part but it doesn't reach the real mod feel.
If you're gonna reach out to mods, make a film that gives them what they want. Proper mod gear, proper styling because that's what's important to mods.
Soundtrack could have been better too.
Overall, pretty average.
The NFL Show (2016)
Brilliant!
Love this show!
Finally, an NFL show for the UK that doesn't constantly remind us of the rules of the game. If we are watching it, we know the rules!
The chemistry between the presenters is great, Jason and Osi are ex pros who know that they're talking about and they bring plenty of humour to the show too.
As much I as Can't stand the BBC for their bias views, this is a great show.
Breakdown (2016)
Better than his usual films
You know what you're gonna get with Fairbrass. You're not gonna get Oscar performances but compared to some of his films, this was better.
I enjoyed it, although I could see where it was heading.
Overall, one of his better films.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Disappointing
It was a let down. I didn't find any of it scary, and I thought the story was weak. The previous films, and spin offs had been very much about the demonic and there was always an air of suspense and horror.
I am a big fan of the conjuring films. I think the casting has been excellent and the directing great.
However, This is certainly the weakest of the lot.
Bring back James Wan to direct and I think the next one will be a cracker!
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Marmite...
I've learnt not to take notice of the "movie of the year!" Headlines that accompanied many movies over the years and I was right to do the same with this.
It's not the worst film I've seen, good in parts but overall disappointing.
The relationship issue that rears it's head near the end was predictable and a number of other scenes left me feeling puzzled.
You're gonna love it or hate it..Rather like marmite.
War of the Worlds (2019)
Far too slow
Could have been a lot better.
Some good actors on board but the pacing was far too slow and I was left wondering how good this could have actually been.
What Lies Below (2020)
Started off OK but tails off rapidly
Below average horror, not at all scary or creepy.
Kind of predictable after a while. I wouldn't say it was the worst acting I've seen
Mom was also rather annoying, calling her daughter "Baby Girl" far too often 🙄
Watch it when it's free on Prime.
Saint Maud (2019)
Not a horror film...left me a little disappointed
After all the hype I really looked forward to this. Sadly, It was a let down.
Don't get me wrong, the acting was excellent. There were some nicely shot scenes but I found myself wanting the film to get going and it never really did.
Was it all in her head? Was she mentally ill? Are there demons and Angels? Was there possession? It's all up to the viewer to make their own mind up, I suppose.
The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020)
Like Marmite, you'll either love it or hate it
Personally, I enjoyed the film. It offers something different.
Some nice humour although the main male lead does fly off the handle for minor things, which can be irritating at times.
The support cast was good too, I thought the acting was decent.
The Ripper (2020)
Ok, but not the best doc
It's not too bad, but I think the BBC4 documentary, The Yorkshire ripper files: A very British crime story is much better.
Host (2020)
Better than you think
I enjoyed this immensely. I heard the hype on it over lockdown and skipped it a few times but decided to give it a go.
All I can say is watch it, you'll be surprised.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Great fun, well worth watching
I thought I'd give it a go, and I'm really glad I did.
Great characters, some nice humour and great fun overall. I ended up watching it all weekend and I hope there will be a third season. I couldn't help but root for Johnny, but I won't say anymore to spoil it.
Give it a go.
The Predator (2018)
Worst of the lot
I love the franchise but this is poor.
Bad script, bizarre storyline. Very disappointed
Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story (2017)
Too much Bowie
Enjoyed it but this should have been Mick Ronson's story. There's just not enough of Ronno, feel like they missed the point of the show.
The Sky TV programme, Passions, with Gary Kemp, was better.
Doctor Who: Resolution (2019)
Show needs a major overhaul
Better than some of the more recent episodes but that doesn't mean it was good.
The standard of writing had dropped dramatically over the last few years, coupled with dull assistants and Jodie trying too hard, this show needs fresh faces across the board.
