without jack sparrow...
11 December 2003
ok to narrow down the effects, wathc the movie and take jack sparrow out of it... doesnt work at all well. the movie revolves and makes good, with one character,

Captain Jack Sparrow. now the others round off a good cast... but what story is there. i love pirates, the ride, and more faith in this movie then anyone. i remember hyping this to death, and staking my life that this will be THE MOVIE of the summer and of 2003. no one would listen to reason. i said look bottom line, johnny depp and orlando bloom, what girl doesnt like them. pirates, who doesnt like em. a fun adventure it will dominate. only response i got, "i dont know its based on a ride..." well yo ho, turns out i was right again, but wrong in the sense how much personally i would like it, has the themes i would use, but it really goes nowhere throughout and is back and forth. so while the atmosphere and sparrow are to die for elements, and the best to watch. the rest of the movie suffers, from stereo-typical plot points. there's no rush involved, and you could walk out of the room, and come back later, and despite the cast moving around for awhile, you'll come back and be in the same place.... trust me it happened. oy. but nice try i give them, adapting a ride, just you could of done a billion things, and dont see how they settle. lucky us, for Captain Jack Sparrow was there to save the day, whether he wanted to or not, savvy?

um...
11 December 2003
so another dark comic turned to be commercial. take a clue from the crow, you dont deviate and succession in a good film and cult classic will happen. i dont who thought an audience would latch on to this. this film is indeed to fast paced, and needs to settle down, it doesnt dive deep enough into characters, for us to really care, except jekyll, which i pitied. but everyone else when their truth were put to the test, they just had witty comebacks. um... couldnt have that response, make em unique thats why they have been held high in literature for sooo long. they dont have the presence they should. each is unique! let em stand out in a group. so the film is wasted. though i defended it until i saw it again, recent films do not give anything back, to viewer's full attention.

eh...

the film has an essence of retired adventure. the characters that are known and respected in the film, D'Artagnan, Athos, Aramis, and Porthos; have lived out their days of adventure, and deal with age, and the king that they despise. the new king poorly portrayed by leonardo dicaprio, makes his entire kingdom suffer, as well as the rest of the cast, and the audience. the rest of the cast has all great and well respected actors. but dont get enough time as they should. as much as like gabriel byrne, i dont think he fits in this movie, and role. i always look where you can pull back, and make it a more important movie. like with the three musketeers, they spend too much time trying to get the modern day audience to relate. if they would focus, on loss, sacrifice, brotherhood, and honor. the themes of the musketeers, they would have far superior results. the dialogue serves these purposes, but the story moves to fast, and has a lot to balance, and the director didnt take his time. some how in all that goes on, most time is spent on the demise of the film, dicaprio. i enjoy it every now and then, but the production and the movement make it difficult to watch, and take seriously.

Adventure
11 December 2003
This film is but a true fun adventure. It's not to be taken absolutely serious. Nor a direct adaption of the classic book. Has quite notable performances by Kiefer Sutherland, Michael Wincott, Rebecca De Mornay, Gabrielle Anwar, and Paul Mcgann. The cinematography as well is noteworthy, two shots that stand out, that i always use in compilations, the shot of them riding across the plains, and when they charge the castle at the end, with an army of musketeers behind them; always takes my breath away. This is a fun movie! Watch for an escape of reality.

CARRYING IN THE BANNER!!!
11 December 2003
i am shocked to find so many fans out there. as a kid till now, i been fighting to give this film the credit it deserves. it is constantly said, this film doesnt belong in the musicals. indeed i agree. the directing and style, make it bare nothing of the typical musical. the way it is, we jump into song and dance, as an expression, as to just song and dance. the song substitutes for emotion to great just to be spoken, and dance is turned into active gestures. this film is true briliance and doesnt hold back at all, can be seen through the preperation and production, and seen in the final film, truly magnificant. OPEN THE GATES AND SEIZE THE DAY!

Powder (1995)
a human story
10 November 2003
the story follows a unique and different individual, who in the viewers eyes is an albino with extraordinary powers, related to energy. now through my eyes, i believe this is an extradordinary film way far overlooked. it just makes the film all more powerful and its points. as the goldblum character states in the movie, this character is what we all should be. he is so gentle, and kind, knows about the world, but has barely begun to step out into light. yet barely a man, it s hard to grasp, this conception. why does he have powers, why does he look like, why doesnt he do something when people pick on him. he differs from the norm, and so does this film. i can relate to his isolation, and the stares he gets. maybe this film is for the outcast, i guess thats why i like it. if you can ignore the tabloid past of this film and just look at it with an open mind and not be stuck up...maybe you can enjoy it to. something brought you to this page...
