Psycho II (1983)
A fine sequel to a true masterpiece
Before I saw the movie I really didn't think it would be anything good, a sequel to hitchcocks famous masterpiece and it's released over 20 years after? After I'd finished this I knew how wrong I had been.
The story takes place immediately after Norman Bates is released from the institution and has to get accustomed to the world yet again and right away things start to go wrong.
The sequel is a well crafted piece of work with another great performance in Perkins as Norman Bates, some impressive camera work that I was not expecting and a chilling soundtrack from Jerry Goldsmith. I don't think anyone is shocked when I say that it wasn't as good as the original, but it didn't feel like it was trying to surpass it in any way and instead, simply build upon the story.
The story is nicely paced and packs some terrifying moments and overall it had the original Psycho vibe but also added some more 80's slasher moments that I personally enjoyed for what they were.
Some negative aspects that I noted was a, in my opinion, subpar performance from Meg Tilly as the girl living with Bates. It might be because she had to act against Perkins in so many scenes but it was quite obvious she wasn't up to snuff in comparison. The ending and some other parts also had some convoluted parts that I didn't really care for but other than that I would recommend horror fans to check this one out.
In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
One of Carpenter's best works!
This movie felt like a mix of The Shining and HP Lovecraft, and it truly got under my skin! Sam Neill is excellent as a private investigator that is looking into the disappearance of a famour horror writer and is worth the price of admission alone.
I was honestly shocked that I don't hear much about this film, it definitely flew under my radar so I would recommend any horror or Carpenter fans to give this one a shot!
Secret Obsession (2019)
Goodness gracious!
I don't think I have rolled my eyes harder or as frequent during any movie i've seen in quite some time, it felt like this movie came off of a band on a factory that churns out bad movies with the exact same plot.
It had a few moments of laughter because of how bad it was, otherwise horrible!
Morgan (2016)
Nothing groundbreaking, but perfectly watchable!
This movie will not give you many philosophical questions to ponder about when it comes to the morals of AI, instead we get a pretty run of the mill movie with good performances from Ana Taylor Joy and Kate Mara, whereas the rest of the characters were very forgettable. It's a slow start but picks up after a while!
I would recommend this movie if you are a fan of the actors or the subject of AI.
