Grey Gardens (2009)
It's an artistic smash!
When watching Grey Gardens, I was drawn in from the first minute of the movie. Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange were unbelievable and their acting is in true fine form. I've always thought Jessica Lange was a phenomenal actress and her performance in this movie is the finest work she has done in years.
Though I've always liked Drew Barrymore, I've never considered her a "serious" actress. Until now. This is the best acting she has ever done. She ought to receive a golden globe and Emmy for her performance in this movie.
I was so intrigued by watching Grey Gardens, I watched the original documentary on YouTube right after, and then watched the movie all over again. It's uncanny how dead on their portrayals are of Edith "Big Edie" Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale.
Watch this movie!
Shut Up & Sing (2006)
Raw and Emotional....
Saw the movie last night in Washington DC at the Landmark E. Street Cinema. I got there really early to make sure we had great seats. When I first walked in, we were the only people there. By the time the movie started, the theatre was sold out and there wasn't an open seat in the house.
The movie did a great job of chronicling what happened to the Dixie Chicks, from being country's darlings singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, to (because of the incident) being called Saddam's Sluts and receiving death threats. I think the bigger message here was also censorship and corporate bans and the effect it has not only on the music industry, but on all of us, just because someone said something you disagreed with. That's a whole different ballgame than just not buying someone's CDs. It also showed me just how scary the Free Republic organization really is.
Watching the movie, I couldn't believe how many ignorant people were out there. I felt I was watching a Barot movie, but here the people themselves were in on the joke. It was amazing to me that in this day in age people are still so closed minded.
The movie is filmed really well. You see Natalie, Martie, and Emily and their families and all three girls give personal accounts of what happened and what it was like for them individually and as a group. Lots of great songs here. The theatre even had DC music piped in to the speakers before the movie started. Just awesome! The girls are vulnerable, raw, and powerful and this movie does a great job of capturing just that. GO SEE THIS DOCUMENTARY!!
United 93 (2006)
An Excellent Gripping Film
I saw this movie last night with a friend and have felt numb since leaving the theater. At the close of the movie, we all just sat there. It was as if we were all at the funerals of those who perished on that tragic day. People were sobbing.
Words can't describe what transpired in that movie theater last night. You quickly forgot you were at the movies and the actors pulled you in to the point you felt you were actually on the plane and this was happening to you.
The brave people on Flight 93 are the true hero's of September 11, 2001. Go see this movie.
Finding Neverland (2004)
Awe Inspiring...
I have never posted on here, but have been a big fan of this website for quite sometime. I enjoy reading other comments, but have never posted one before, until I saw Finding Neverland. This movie left my in tears for several minutes after it ended. I watched it with friends and we were laughing at how emotional it got us. What an amazing journey this movie takes you on and it tugs at that inner child and vivid imagination we have in all all of us.
Wonderfully acted, Johnny Depp is just brilliant. You are there with him, the whole time seeing what it is like to be in his head. Kate Winslet is wonderful in this movie. These two actors are simply that best we have in cinema.
This is bar none the best movie I have ever seen in my life. I can never recall having a movie this much on my mind long after I have watched it. You must see this movie, I assure you it will land its way on your top 10 list.
Something's Gotta Give (2003)
Excellent Movie!
I have been a member of IMDB for quite some time; however, never felt inclined to submit a comment, that was... until I saw this movie. This is a wonderful movie. The only other actress to bring out the best of Jack was Shirly Maclaine in Terms of Endearment. Diane Keaton was awesome in this movie and Jack was just as wonderful.
One of the best movies this year! I urge everyone to go and see it!
