We Have a Ghost (2023)
Good viewing for almost any mood
I really enjoyed this movie. It has a bit of everything for everyone. Some good humour, a touch of horror, a pinch of drama, a tiny bit of action (queue police car chase), a dollop of crime/thriller and a smidge of romance.
What's not to love?
The sound track was good. The acting was enjoyable. The script was well thought out. It's a very clever production in my personal opinion. Great casting.
Was it perfect? No. Does that matter? Also no. For me, it was just right. I didn't know what to expect going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised and happy with my choice within the first 3 minutes into the movie. Not once did I consider if I wanted to turn it off.
They can be proud of this movie. Well done!
South Park (1997)
A Very Enthusiastic Two Thumbs Up!
Wow! So much hate for the show? Ha-ha. I get that it is not for everyone, but don't knock it just because you don't understand or agree with it. Rather just don't watch it and leave those of us who do alone.
Sure the profanity can be offensive, but then let's face it, you are just being a prude! Almost every episode has an underlying message of some sort with a deeper meaning. Not only that, but it shows you the funny side of a seriously messed up world with a sick, but amusing twist. Learn to laugh a little, you might enjoy it. Who care's if they rip on Ginger's or Jew's a lot? They rip on everyone. Don't think that they are just targeting you. You are not that special! They rip on the fatties, the whites, the blacks, the tall, the short, the celebrities....everyone. Gosh if people are going to take it so seriously then you deserve to be ripped on. If you honestly claim that people rip on you more because of South Park, then you are deluded. South Park may have given them better lines to use, but they were going to do it with or without the help of the show, so get over it!
That being said, my thoughts on this show is that it is nothing short of pure brilliance. The humour is witty and snide. It has a sense of cuteness to it too (like when Cartman or Butters sing *heart melts*). I love it, and I try and surround myself mostly with others who love it too. It taught me about the Mormons and Scientology. It can be rather educational :-D. I mean how else would I have learned that the lid on the top of the toilet was for my chocolate milk and comic books, and that all this time I was sitting on it the wrong way round? *giggle*.
When asked the question about who I want to meet dead or alive. My top answer is always Matt Stone and Trey Parker. What I wouldn't give to spend a day hanging out with those two!!!
Screw you guys...I'm going home...
Sucker Punch (2011)
An Overrated Portray of Nothing More than CGI Talent
There is nothing deep or meaningful about this movie. If you think otherwise then you may be seriously addicted to some bad narcotics or you live in a world of your own. Either way, I'd seek therapy.
This movie is nothing more than an idea that started with "OMG we have a huge budget to make a movie, but we are not sure what to make, so lets spend it all on CGI and people won't care if we come up with utter rubbish."
Usually I would give some credit if I could see a good idea was there to begin with, but then somehow it lost it's way. However I cannot do that here. There was no effort put into the actual story line at all. If the Producers honestly believe their was, then I truly think they are high too. I often hear the excuse "Yeah, but we thought outside the box and went to a place that only a select intelligent few can truly understand." What bull! If few understand it then there is nothing there to understand at all really and you are just coming up with reasons why it sucked.
Rather take your huge budget and buy a luxurious private jet plane. It will be more useful in the long run, even if only to yourself.
Magic Mike (2012)
A Potential Not Quite Reached
(May Contain Spoilers)
While this movie had the potential of becoming every woman's (and gay man's) favourite movie of all time, it failed dismally. Instead of being something to bring out and watch on 'girl's night', it has become something to laugh about when friends look back and remember that one time they wasted 2 hours of their life.
The dancing and stripping where the only highlight of the whole movie. The story line was poorly thought out and it never reached the heights it could have gone to. The base line was there, it just never elevated.
The acting was terrible...absolutely shocking! Never again will I silently reprimand the makers of Twilight for casting Kristen Stewart. She is miles better than anything I saw in this film. Which is very surprising considering that Matthew and Channing are somewhat talented stars. So here I would have to blame the Director - Steven Soderbergh. The set, lighting and sound were very poor as well. I can only hope that it was a failed attempt at making it seem more like a real life documentary than an American Box Office hit. Otherwise there would be no excuse! A huge disappointment all round. I was not expecting high graphic 3D male parts to jump out at me of course, but it could have been a lot better.
The film was clearly very low budget and what I fear may have been a rushed project. It was like they thought "Hey, who gives a crap if this movie is any good...women and gay men all over the world will see it just for Channing and Matthew. Let's push to screen it in July while the summer holidays are still in play and we can make a quick buck."
Here is hoping it has not ruined it for any better ideas involving male stripping going forward!
