Crossing Lines (2013)
Only watch S1 & S2!!!
I loved the first two seasons! The original cast in those seasons really resonated with me. The focus on European locations and cross border crimes really gave me a feeling no other crime series ever gave me and totally captivated me emotionally.
Season 3 is nothing like that: it's a totally different show and that NOT a good thing. I am so sad to see this show ended, and due to the very poor 3rd season that I will not continue to watch I am left with a bit of an emotional hangover and loads of loose ends.
Still, I would recommend anyone to watch those first two seasons. The show is certainly not perfect, but I still found myself looking forward to every single episode!
Swingtown (2008)
That SWINGIN' 70's show!!
I'll be honest about it: since Once Upon A Time I've developed a crush the size of Texas for one Lana Parrilla. That, combined with the information that this show would be about a married swingers couple in the 70's were my only incentives to start watching this show.
What really surprised me though is that this show could have had great shock value: after all, a swinging couple in the 70's just screams sex and orgies and lots of it. Instead, it's barely beyond PG-13 in my opinion. The swinging couple could've been trying to bed the other couples every chance they got. Instead, they are observant and are at times seemingly the glue for holding the marriages of their friends together.
I'm actually happy that this show was not as one dimensional as I expected it to be. Aside from the expected and almost obligated foursome of the old and new neighbors, I found myself able to look further than the lovely Trina (very difficult as she spends a lot of time in or around the pool...or in bed ;)) and found this to be a decent drama show. It's about different kinds of love and the ups and downs of relationships, no matter what form they may take.
Of course I'm an 90's kid, so I haven't lived the 70's. But combine this intriguing drama with great period music, cars, clothes and even period words and it actually makes me want to experience those years. Well, maybe for a fortnight or so. After all, the 70's don't have that sexy Trina strutting her stuff... :)
The Avengers (2012)
Awesome movie!
I'm usually very excited to watch a superhero movie, but after hitting a couple of really bad ones I kind of lost my faith for an amazing one. I thought of skipping this movie (figured it was overkill to have so many heroes in one film), but good reviews and the fact that it had Joss Whedon's prints all over it tempted me to go see it anyway. And I was not disappointed. In fact, I was amazed!
The threat to earth is genuine and the action spectacular. But what really makes this movie stand out for me is the fact that it combines serious action with sharp humor seemingly without effort. And it is endearing to see very human flaws in the heroes you've come to love. I felt it was a well-paced movie, where every hero got to shine in their own way. Annnnnd I think Coby Smulders should definitely feature more in movies like this one: honey, that outfit was...ehm well tailored. ;)
If you haven't seen this one yet: run (don't walk damnit) to the nearest theatre for an amazingly entertaining 2,5h ride, that'll still leave you yearning for more!
