Since launching his first garage band in grade seven, Jan started performing professionally at the age of 15. His band Manna was formed with four other high school friends, and they were touring the world performing all original material as part of a concert tour with Jesus Christ Superstar in 1970.
As a blues sideman he performed with Bo Diddley, Otis Rush, Gary US Bonds, Sam Lay, and Canadian guitar virtuoso Amos Garrett.
He has performed in coffee houses and festivals as a singer songer writer all over the world and in 2008 released his first album of songs Good Fair World. His second album Wait In Line (2021) quickly climbed to the #3 spot on CKUA radio's top 40 playlist.
As Composer and Music Director he began working for Second City in 1980 and collaborated with Catherine O'Hara, Mike Myers and many other stars in the years he was creating and improvising with them. In 2001 he was responsible for putting together a one thousand voice choir and composing for the Edmonton Symphony to create the music for the 7th IAAC World Championships Ceremonies. This show reached an estimated live audience of four billion in a broadcast to over two hundred countries.
He currently lives in Victoria BC where he performs regularly as a solo act and with his blues band Rhythm Train.
