Arnolds Park (2007)

An excellent movie that many will enjoy

I was privy to seeing the premiere of Arnold's Park at Arnold's Park in Iowa. It is a movie that many can enjoy, from the 13 year-old girls to my 60'ish year-old mother.

I helped to save the park in 1999 when it was threatened with demolition to make way for condo's & such. And it was nice to see a movie set there.

As for the story, if you were ever one of those that got picked on in school, you can relate to this one.

Picked on by his schoolmates, Francis Larson is the whipping boy for all of the 'cool kids' and others that ridicule & make fun of about his sloth-like appearance & demeanor. One of his female classmates that he openly had a crush on is found dead from drowning in Lake Okoboji.

Francis is a suspect of the murder & thusly found guilty, sent to prison, and commits suicide from the shame of what he has gotten into.

Or did he?

I cannot go any further as to not spoil your viewing.

Just trust me. The beginning maybe slow, but things will pick up & you will enjoy attempting to figure out . . .

Who did kill Barbara Stratton? You will all have fun attempting to figure that one out thanks to the writer Jim Kreitel, a screenwriter from Sioux Falls, SD. He created a story with many twists & turns to make the viewer wonder who is the guilty one, and suspect everyone.

As this is his first movie produced, I would say I was more than very impressed. It looks like this guy may have great potential to be someone to be reckoned with in the future. As well as proof to other burgeoning writers who are not from the coast{s} or metro areas, that you can obtain your dreams of professional writing. If you keep at it, it can happen if you follow your dream.

In summery: This is an overall fun movie

This movie sucks more than anything that has sucked before

I worked this shoot just for having my name in the credits. I had a friend that ran a video store & had him order a copy for me. When I finally saw it, I could not watch the whole show without my thumb on the 'ffw' button.

I spent days at locations. I even had to endure the nasti looks of joggers while driving on the pedestrian path of the tri-bourgh bridge.

The worst though was having to take the lead actress into the city, "because her cat was sick", then getting my ass chewed for being off site so long. "where the hell have you been", "I had to circle the block while the cat had an emergency hairball extraction", "OK, It's not your fault & I'm gunna talk to that f%^&ing diva"

When the credits came up, my name was not listed.

I think if it had, I would not have gotten work since then.

Cry Wolf (2005)

We have seen this movie done before . . . Many times.

As employees of a theatre, we have to screen the movies in a "dry run" to make sure it was physically assembled properly. In the case of Cry Wolf, the middle four reels could have easily been left in the can & no one would have complained. This movie reminded us seeing this movie years ago, but we could not put our fingers on which one it was.

Then is occurred to us that it was not one particular movie, it was bits & pieces of many of the "teen trauma cheezy flicks" from years past, all thrown in to a blender to make a bad vegan breakfast smoothie that would kill off a houseplant if dumped out.

Imagine a movie with some Heathers & Scream, with a small dash of Indecent Behaviour & Halloween. Puree for 10 seconds. Add a few pinches of American Psycho, and a handful of crushed lame-ass plot lines. And continue to mix to a texture of bad.

With the end of the movie you sit & think of all of the plot twists, and background stories, and you wonder what was the point of the last 58 minutes.

One of many non-impressive, supposed to be something that it is not, should have gone straight to video, movies that have been forced on us in the last year.

All because "hollywood" has lost its creative originality.
