Angels of the Universe (2000)

I loved this movie

I saw this movie on a flight to Iceland. What a treat. This movie is one of a kind. So different than the Hollywood formula movies that you see over and over again hoping that you'll see something different for a change. It sure puts to shame "One flew over the cuckoo's nest". Which had a similar subject. Unlike "cuckoo's nest" this movie didn't wasn't overdone. It was subtle and gentle even though it was dealing with a heavy subject. its message about sanity , the human condition and the times we're living in, will stay with me forever. The characters were perfectly developed. The conversations were sharp, wise, leaving you breathless. The acting was perfect. It was well directed and shot. I just loved it.

Lava Storm (2008 TV Movie)

Good movie

I'm very skeptical of disaster movies. Since this is an independent low budget movie I wanted to give it a try. And I'l glad I did because I really enjoyed it. I'm glad to see an action/disaster movie where the main characters are actually human with real emotions and problems. I was glad to see an actual plot under all the noise, the fire and the explosions. My experience with disaster movies is that they are usually cheap, with no plot and macho super men. The plot is always the same, so if you see one you've seen them all. But this movie was different. The female characters were strong and equal to the man. Unlike the standard disaster/action movies where the women are usually brainless bimbos with big breast that are saved by the male hero. Good job.

300 (2006)

the Movie Fails to Attribute Use of Macedonian Folk Song in Soundtrack

Hollywood blockbuster 300, based on Frank Miller's cult graphic novel about Spartan resistance to Persian invasion, includes a copycat of the famous Macedonian folk song "Zajdi, zajdi, jasno Sonce." However, the soundtrack author Tyler Bates failed to provide proper attribution, and now claims the melody as his own copyrighted work.

Macedonian portal On.net revealed that intro to the song "Message For The Queen," number 24 on the 300 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack has the same melody as the famous Macedonian folk song "Zajdi, zajdi jasno Sonce" Set, set bright Sun. Internationally renowned for its characteristic melody and melancholic lyrics, this song has been included in numerous anthologies and has been interpreted by a number of Macedonian star singers, including Aleksandar Sarievski, Zafir Hadzimanov, and Toshe Proeski. During the last 60 years, this was one one of the songs that people of former Yugoslavia most often associate with Macedonia, as shown in the 1998 movie Powder Keg by Serbian director Goran Paskaljevic.

On.net also published a response by Tyler Bates, who claims that he "can't say there is a specific source of inspiration for the cue." The portal urges its readers to use Mr. Bates' e-mail to send him original versions of the song, so he can be reminded of where it came from.

A moment of ablution and prayer. A beautiful young woman combs her hear by the fountain of youth. There is water drumming in the background. Happy voices of girls and women accompany the drumming. The young woman is oblivious of her surrounding. Her complete involvement in the moment makes her even more beautiful. She is untouchable and mysterious. One can hear the silent prayers, while the woman, the drumming, the water, and God become one in this moving picture that transcends the time and the place.

Beautifully shot in black and white, this short movie purifies your soul.

The Temp (1999)

Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.

This little film reminded me of the tagline for the well-known movie, The Shawshank Redemption, with Morgan Freeman:

"Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free."

The film is a comedy set in an LA office, in the nineties. The place seems deserted except for a couple of unfortunate character with no purpose in life. Sinolicka is a young woman that is brought to the estranged place as a temp. Like a fish out of water, she struggles to find her place in the office vacuum and discovers that only her dreams and hopes can help her go through the endless days.

Funny and witty, this is a movie that everyone that has "served time" as a temp can identify with.

A subtly disturbing psychological game of a cat and a mouse living together, alone in a same apartment. Beautfly shot with effective dialog. Good acting by the feemale character.
