Frenemies (2012)
Frenemies? Heck yes.
This movie is far more than just another Disney movie. The main idea is that two people, even Bffs, can become enemies. Another thing that should be paid attention to is the idea that Julianne, played by Stephanie Scott, uses people to get a good grade. It's a more kid friendly approach to the idea of using people, but shall not be taken as a joke. Overall, it was a very cute movie that should be enjoyable for kids and adults alike. I think it's good that they have different stories throughout the movie so it keeps you sitting there, wanting to know what's next. I highly suggest this movie to young teens and kids out there that have light enough expectations to give this movie a chance. It's not your average mediocre Disney movie. It was very well done.
The Muppets (2011)
Calling all the Muppet fans!!
The recently released, "The Muppets", is truly amazing. Anyone who gives a bad review for this title, well they may have not seen the original Muppets before. The same type of cartoon violence(very, very mild. Nothing more than cartoon like explosions!)used in the original Muppets applied to this movie and is quite entertaining. This movie was amazingly spectacular with all of the guest stars, including Selena Gomez, Sarah Silverman, Rico Rodriguez, and more. It is truly a masterpiece and may be remembered as the "greatest Muppet movie ever".
It may be a Disney movie, but for the kid inside of us all, that kid should be wanting to watch The Muppets. If you are ready for laughs, cameo performances, and singing along to your favorite songs from this movie, it's time to go watch it. NOW.
The Art of Getting By (2011)
Underestimated
This movie is about a teen that has to make up his mind whether to continue to get by in life or actually put in the effort to graduate. It's quite complicating since he is an artist that gets easily distracted. With the help of his newfound friend, he finally has a reason to strive to succeed in life, while falling in love with her. The movie is inspiring to all of the kids out there that don't attempt to put the effort into life.
One line that specifically highlights this is the line "Anything Is Possible". It is said at the end of the movie but should be emphasized more throughout the movie since it is the main message.
This movie is different because it shows the other side of high school kids; the "bad" side. With an amazing performance by Highmore, The Art of Getting By may just be the best "underdog" movie of 2011.
The Help (2011)
The most truthful 1960s film I've seen
Having heard the good reviews coming from this movie, I knew it was a movie to watch. I had no expectations for this movie. I thought it was going to be just a typical racism movie. But no, it was so much more. With tremendous performances from Viola Davis and Emma Stone, it brought tears just hearing the words they say. The acts of selfishness from the main antagonist Hilly is quite harsh. It made me think that if it were me, I would fight right back. But this movie is not just very dramatic. It had very funny moments where a maid bakes a pie for Hilly and says that it is her feces although it isn't. The help is an example of what we don't realize. We don't realize what goes on in our real lives. We don't see that people are getting abused behind our backs.
But what the help really is trying to tell us is that with certain help, the unheard voices are heard. The help ,which is found through Skeeter(Stone), gives the maids a chance to be heard. To be appreciated. We need to respect everything. It may be hard but with the right help, anything is possible.
