Frasier (2023)
Just as good...if not better!
I am really enjoying this show, much to my surprise. There really haven't been many modern sitcoms that have peaked my interest, but there's something special here. Grammer hasn't lost a step and you can really tell how much he relishes this role. The supporting cast has really grown on me and each of them bring something unique and hilarious to the show. I've only seen 5 episodes but there's really nothing that I would change. It's very funny, sometimes quite touching and still retains that original Frasier charm. I would recommend this to anyone who even had a passing interest in the original show. It makes me feel good, almost like...dare I say, therapy?
The Salvation (2014)
Diet Western
I really don't like Jeffery Dean Morgan in this or really in anything. He never adds anything to the character and sometimes makes a film much worse. Like this isn't a great film, the pacing is off, none of the characters are clearly defined BUT if this film had had a decent villain it might have risen slightly above mundane. Mads is great as always but really all of the actors here just looked like they were watching someone mow their lawn. Dumb story, some great Mads scenes, some terrible Jeffery Dean Morgan scenes. Mostly just a ripoff
Primal Rage (2018)
Well made horror
I don't understand the low rating on here, this is a great, well made (especially for a first time director) horror film. Fantastic practical effects, solid acting and just pure fun entertainment with some absolutely disgusting gore. Loved it. Can't wait to see what this filmmaker has next!
Ideal Home (2018)
Coogan & Fleming together again!
One of my favorite films of all time is Andrew Fleming's fantastic Hamlet 2 (2008) which starred the great Steve Coogan as a failed actor working as an high school drama teacher in Tucson. Arizona. It was basically a pastice of motivational teacher films but with an incredible amount of humor & great music. I've watched it about 15 times and I still think it's funny! Now this film comes along and just blows me out of the water. I love it. The writing is great, tackling real things while staying wild and unhinged throughout. The love story between Steve & Paul Rudd's character is very believable and every time they're in a scene together is electrifying because they're both hilarious actors. The boy actor who plays the grandson of Erasmus (Coogan's character) is very good and plays a likeable asshole kid very well. I dont know what else to say other than I was in love with this picture from start to finish. Emotional, outrageous, and a ton of fun. Check it out!
Columbo: Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star (1991)
The NFI hat!
At one point in this episode, Columbo arrives to the scene of the crime to examine some champagne corks. It's raining outside and he's let in by the maid who is extremely annoyed by his presence. He comes through the door wearing a black trucker cap reading NFI in big white letters. This is the episode my great-Uncle Marty told me about when I was ten years old, visiting him in Malibu with my brother and grandmother.
He told my brother and I that he and Peter Falk had hung out at some point, and that Uncle Marty had been wearing this NFI hat (I don't have any idea where he got it). Peter Falk, being an inquisitive guy, asked my great uncle, "So, ah, what does NFI stand for?' to which Marty answered, "No F------ Idea!" Peter Falk apparently thought this was so funny that he just had to wear the hat in the episode he was currently filming!
My great uncle even showed us a picture of him and Falk together wearing matching NFI hats!
We always liked this story but, because he never told us the title, we could never find the episode and I was starting to think it didn't really exist until very recently I found it in the complete Columbo set!
This probably means nothing to anyone else but it made me hoot with joy! Overall a fun episode with one very special scene of Columbo examining corks and questioning an angry maid all while wearing an NFI hat. Now where do I get one of those hats?
The Comedy (2012)
My Take on The Comedy
I'm a big fan of Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job, and that is essentially why I wanted to see this, but this film is another animal. There's the humor that fans of Tim & Eric are used to scattered here and there throughout the film but I think it mainly works to compliment the mood of the entire piece. Be warned, this is not a regular film, if that's what you desire than that's just fine, see something else. The Comedy is that piece of art on the wall, when you see it for the first time, that makes you think of how you act and who you are and what you're doing. It's that thing that someone said to you that stuck in your head and brought up memories you'd forgotten about and lies that you've told yourself. But this is just how I felt, reviews are flawed because they can only tell you how that particular person felt about that particular thing. You may see it and just see one big, boring piece of crud. I'm not going to say that I think the movie was trying to say one thing or another because I believe any good art isn't clearly defined or pinned down. All I know is that it affected me. I really do hope more people see it because I believe we need something like this to level out everything else that's thrown at us. Give it a chance.
