Sachin (2017)
Tear drops guaranteed... Sachin sachiiin....
This is how a biopic should be directed. No fancy songs, no dream sequences, just the master himself narrating his life journey.
The loudest roar was heard when Dhoni was shown in the film and similarly, the loudest roar heard in MS Dhoni's biopic was the scene where they show Sachin's poster.
Such is the respect and love the country shares for these two heroes. Some minority bunch of loons just say I hate Dhoni, I hate Sachin just for the sake of argument.
To those who say "I hate sachin (or anyone else for that matter)", you have no fu***ng rights to say that. We don't know f**k abt the game, the technique involved and what not. So just STFU...
The movie would certainly make us nostalgic and ur love for the game would certainly increase after seeing the movie. No one could have come back after a serious injury and scored 18 plus tons before retiring.
If you ask someone what's the most amazing invention/discovery, ppl might say wireless communication, robotics, nano technology and so on, but no one would say Electricity. Without electricity, everyhing is garbage and Sachin is the Electricity that triggered all that what you see on Indian cricket today. Deal with it.
A must watch movie. Tear drop guaranteed...
Aandavan Kattalai (2016)
Guarantees a smile and a light heart when you exit the screen
A pure director's movie. Tons of laughs, good performance from not just one, but the entire cast.
Vijay Sethupathi is really having a dream run at the kollywood. Rithika Singh awww, the boxer girl next door, adorable in a weird way. Another knockout performance. Such films are really tough to make, they really are...
One thing I am wondering about is why the hell did they keep this title for the movie, but hey! after watching some movies, I have wondered why the hell they made that movie.
Aandavan Kattalai === Thodari ke gate potaangappa....
Don't Breathe (2016)
Home Alone Inside out.....
A more than decent thriller with exemplary camera work. This is not a Good Vs Evil kind of a movie where ppl root for the good one to come out triumphant.
Had the director thrown a little more light into the past of the blind war veteran, things would have been much more intense. A few more lingo from the blind wouldn't have hurt either.
In other words, you take Home Alone and engineer it inside out , what you get is Don't Breathe. If Home Alone >>> Christmas then Don't Breathe >> Halloween...
A worthy theatrical watch ...
Fast & Furious 7 (2015)
If Ethan Hunt can climb the Burj, Dominic Toretto can crash the Burj.....
There I was, 10:15 IST on a Thursday morning, lucky enough to watch the Furious 7 before the whole world got a chance to do so. Was it worth it???, HELL YA!!!! it was...
With the 'A' team together, holding patents for all impossible, improbable n outrageous stunts, what more the fans can ask for? Paul Walker received a thunder bolt of a response when he first appeared, driving a damn regular SUV.
Dom the alpha, was at his usual best, kicking hard ass for family. Rock did not have much screen time but when he was on screen, it was high octane all the way.. Jason plays a typical British black ops shadow man and was certainly an asset to the series.
The action sequences induce goose bumps and they have given enough of that in this movie. To top it off, a heart warming retirement for Paul receives a standing ovation at the end. Furious 7, a Definite front runner for being the fan favourite in the franchise.
RIP Paul......
RED 2 (2013)
RED! I call them REFD....
In case if you people are wondering what REFD is, its just Retired Extremely Funny and Dangerous.
It was raining heavily here and I still did not want to miss the sequel. So, was I disappointed with it, not a chance. With Die Hard not doing that well, people definitely had their doubts on this one and believe me when I say that those people are nuts. Certain websites also wrote that the most noticeable change in the movie is the inclusion of Catherine Zeta Zones. I donno where they are keeping their heads now, after watching the performance of Anthony Hopkins as a scientist.
The Plot is simple, news about a portable Nuclear device that was assembled by US in Russia is released in Wikileaks page and guess what, Frank and Marvin's names are linked with the device. With CIA, MI6 and all the other agencies hot on their trail, they find the truth about the device with the help of the reliable team, which you should already know.
Even though RED 2 faces immense competition, it should pick up in the weeks to come. A must watch. Trust me, you will not see that coming.
Vishwaroopam (2013)
Vishwaroopam, the new example of Unity in diversity
Had the privilege of watching Vishwaroopam, Kamal Haasan's latest gift to world cinema. There were Kamal fans, Rajni fans, Thalapathy fans, Thala fans, Surya fans, Karthi fans (whomever is left after seeing Alex Pandian) and fans of many other stars. There were Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jains and people of other religion too. They all converged, not just to see the movie, but to celebrate it. Kamal has proved that there is Unity n diversity, by virtue of his Freedom of speech and Expression being taken to the cleaners.
The first 30 minutes, where Kamal (viswanath) appears as a Kathak teacher is pure Class A display of acting skills. The scene where Vishwa explodes and shows his real identity, simply leaves us stunned. The title song "Nee yaarandru therigiradha" just suits vishwa and actually suits Kamal in real life too. The song was shot superbly and it leaves us wanting more of it.
Omar Bhai (Rahul Bose) happens to take a look at Vishwa and realizes who he really is. For those who saw the movie and still wondering who Vishwa is, he is an officer from Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) India. The reason why I am stressing on it, is cos many would not have grasped it, as the term RAW was never used in the movie.
Kamal works undercover with the Al Quita and aids the US to destroy their base. Omar, who escapes the attack lives in New York and plans on setting off a dirty bomb. This attack is pre-plaanned and Vishwa know about this, as he was once a trusted buddy of Omar. The scene were Omar forces a matured boy (who wants to be a doctor) to become a suicide bomber and the one where a suicide bomber is shown to have the heart of a kid are simply touching.
The movie keeps you occupied and Kamal's direction is unique. Certain scenes do show clearly that they are CG, but that does not really affect the movie one bit. The climax is set in such a way that Omar escapes the claws of Vishwa and this gives a lead to make Vishwaroopam 2. I really wonder why media called this a controversial movie. Kamal should sue the media for using such terms. I can so here Kamal asking "Where is the Controversy maamu"
You just can't get enough of Vishwaroopam by watching it once. Please go and celebrate this film. This is one film that boldly raised the middle finger to the Piracy gangs. My friends asked me how I managed to get the ticket for first day show at Sathyam cinemas. All I had in mind was "Vida muyarchi, VISHWAROOPA Vettri". Please go and watch this film in theatres. This movie deserves a 9/10.
Kumki (2012)
Kumki, certainly a master key....
There are several "keys" to "Kumkey's" success. For starters, Kumki elephants are the ones who are trained to drive off the wild elephants from hindering social life of the people dwelling in the forests.. The director Prabu Solomon has not disappointed the audience and has come out with a clear and charismatic feel good film..
Bomman (Vikram Prabu), cute pet elephant Manikkam and his uncle Thambi Ramiah are nomads, and the 2 (plus another character called Undial) depend on Manikkam for their living... Manikkam is not a wild elephant due to unfortunate circumstances, he had to go to a village pretending to be the Kumki elephant, whom they had hired to protect them from Komban, the terror elephant..
They were just meant to act for 2 days and luckily, Komban does not show up on those days. When the original Kumki was ready to replace Manikkam, Bomman had already fallen in love with Alli (Lakshmi Menon) and decides to stay at the village, pretending to have an actual Kumki in the form of Manikkam. They have some success in training Manikam to do the job of a Kumki.
Alli is is the daughter of the village head, who is very particular about the culture and heritage of the village. The cinematography is splendid and the songs have reached every nook and corner of the state. The screams start even before the song begins... Thambi Ramiah's timing comedy is impeccable and u just cannot stop laughing... Vikram has done really well and will add on to the family legacy.
The second half deals with what happens to Komban?, is he defeated?, does the love story hit a dead end? Did all of them live happily ever after? Well, to have these questions answered, go and watch d film... Definitely worth watching... 8.5/10 it is....
Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012)
Go see it, at least for Ilayaraja...
Here we go, discussing about another stereotypical love movie from Gautham Menon. NDEPV does have all the controversies that generally comes along with most of Gautham's flicks (too much English, too slow etc).
The film begins with an enchanting song, that got me completely glued to the movie, especially for the fact that it was shot at SSN college. This song was shot in the hostel, entrance, auditorium and various Department buildings, I felt as if I was in my college.
Varun (Jiva) meets Nithya (Samantha)in his class, who apparently is her primary school, secondary school and secondary school crush. For some reason, they lose contact and Varun impresses her by singing an Ilayaraja classic on the stage. They fall in love and everything seems to be OK. One day, Varun 's parents are humiliated by the girl's parents whom his brother liked. This incident creates a spark in Varun 's mind n he decides to get serious with studies.
Again, Nithya could not understand why things r changing and argues with Varun . Poor Nithya does not know his family situation n the relationship eventually breaks up. The first half ends here and everything is fine up until now. The second half is all about how Varun comes back to win Nithya back again and what happens to their love..
The second half entirely rests on the shoulders of the great Maestro Ilayaraja. His music literally speaks to us and actually the lyrics tell you exactly what is going on in the film. You can sit blind folded and still understand the movie by just listening to the music and songs. Raja Raja Dhaan.... What is creating many detractors for the movie, is the fact that the climax was too dragging and could have been more crispier.. Agreeable, but still, it does not happen that way in real life. Watchable, at least for the Maestro... 7/10 it is...
Thuppakki (2012)
Certainly worth watching...
The Gun has fired loud and sharp... After days spent in front of the Laptop, I got tickets to see Thuppaki The story is based on the intelligence, skills and toughness that a military man possesses and it also depicts the sacrifices that he has to make for his country's well being. Thanks to a brilliantly flawless and logical direction by Murugadas AR , the movie never loses its pace. He has done an excellent job to ensure that the movie does not go too serious and also that it does not go too romantic... Kaajal looks gorgeous and does her part to perfection. Vijay with his timing comedies does not fail to bring laughter to the house.
The last ten minutes before the first half is absolutely mind blowing and it was certainly hair raising, not just because I am a fan of his, but because, I am also an Indian. Jagadish (Vijay) is sharp even under stressful situations and comes out as a clear winner, in the war against terror. Good editing and excellent BGM scored by Harris. Songs are wonderfully choreographed and the locations are exotic. The climax is ultimate and Jagadish proves that he is smarter than his enemies, actually, the Nation's enemies.
To sum it up, a perfect diwali feast for the families and his Fans, don't miss it :)
