The Void (I) (2016)
Great movie if your into the outer and weird
3 September 2017
The Void is a great movie certain kind of horror fans will enjoy. I would say if you liked The Thing, Altered States and From Beyond, you will likely enjoy The Void. The movie has its failings, the writing isn't always the greatest, but where it shines is its fast paced decent into horror and madness. The movie truly creates a oppressive and deeply disturbing atmosphere, akin to Silent Hill. The creatures can be cool, but also clearly are made on a tight budget and it shows, but the effort is admirable and the creature at the end is a truly terrifying thing. I do think this will be a movie that at somepoint will be seen as a minor classic, it has all the elements that would make it perfect for a old school midnight TV movie marathon. It's a definite movie to see at least once.

Really don't get the love for this film
4 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe for some people this film is invokes some kind of deep nostalgia and that's why they love it so much, but it's honestly a terrible film. The idea is interesting, with the devil being an actual being intricately linked with the very fabric of the universe, Jesus being an alien sent here to warn us and the Catholic Church spreading a lie to cover up the horrible truth. It's a great premise, but it's handled so badly that the movie is barely watchable. The writing is atrocious, so much of the plot is half ass explained with some of the most awful dialogue I've ever seen. There are several plot points that go completely unresolved and one of them is a major one that is talked about through most of the film. The acting is terrible (unfortunate because many of these actors had given great performances in previous John Carpenter films) I don't think any of the actors had a clue what was going on and gave performances that ranged from limp and dull to completely absurd and over the top (not in the good way either). All of this makes the slow pace of the movie, which could have made for a great slow and terrifying movie, incredibly dull and frustrating to watch. I think any fan of John Carpenter should watch it, but it's honestly a terrible movie.

Thought I dreamt this movie up
26 May 2015
I thought this movie was a myth. Since a kid I had a vague memory of a movie where a couple of cyborgs are killed, that's all I could remember. I didn't think this movie actually existed until I saw it on a list of obscure animated films. You could only imagine how excited I was that it actually existed.

The movie is rather well animated, in atypically 80's fashion. The story is decent enough and the voice acting is pretty good. This is a movie from an era where people were trying to make epic animated movies, that were more adult. It's a shame this movie is as forgotten as it is.
