Better if not Biased
I thought this documentary was mostly good. Some viewers may not be able to watch it as it does show in detail the victims, many were children. I appreciated the candidness of the footage because it really captures the horror of a mass shooting, and how one crazed man can cause so much devastation. The director did a good job with the interviews of the victims and victim's family. Had the director not presented a skewed and opinionated view of how the police handled the situation, I would rate this much higher. I felt the director was blaming the police and said his "peace" in writing at the end of the documentary which I felt was cowardly. He didn't go into too much detail in the film regarding why it took the police a long time to respond. He also was very ignorant to how a situation like this could be very difficult for police to handle. I think he expected the cops to come barging in guns blazing without having all the information they needed like how many suspects were in there, etc. He also made a comment about how the police didn't rescue the wounded victims laying outside of the restaurant. I'm thinking you don't need to be a cop to see that having no cover, and running out into the open isn't going to save the victims only make more. I know the police make mistakes, and I think there is no active shooter scenario that goes perfectly but I'm not really sure what else they could've done with the information they had. I also think its really easy to look at this case which was in the 80s in retrospect knowing what we know now and how it could've been done differently, and that's not fair. My goodness, the first officer on scene had a .38 caliber pistol. Need I say more? I did respect the fact that they don't mention the killer's name. I vaguely remembered hearing about this incident and couldn't believe its not more known. Maybe that's because the killer's actions weren't glorified all this time.
