The Accountant (2016)
Poorly directed
An excellent story spoiled by very poor direction and mediocre acting.
Very disappointed because I have much higher expectations for a project with Ben Affleck involved.
Toward the end this movie devolves into totally ludicrous hokiness, almost as bad as those ridiculous comic strip "hero" movies. Even if you can suspend your disbelief, the wildly implausible shooting scenes become hugely distracting - they're so unrealistic that it becomes your focus.
It's too bad - the storyline could have been made into a great movie. I hope that a good director and a good screenwriter can get together on a remake and do this justice.
The Interrogation of Michael Crowe (2002)
Not credible -- I hope
If this is the way police in this country behave, it's time to move to Russia or China, or any other police state.
Does anyone seriously believe that parents would put up with this kind of abuse from police, subjecting themselves to unbelievably egregious invasion of privacy , without speaking to an attorney?
If this kind of incompetent, biased police behavior was ever experienced by my family, I would sue the police department and every other agency all the way up to the governor for so much money they would be sorry they eere ever born. Then I would sue every individual who ever thought about being involved with the case for all they were worth. Finally, I would seek Federal indictments against all of the police thugs involved, charging them with hate crimes.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Outstanding
The IMDB summary of this movie has to be the most hilariously ignorant paragraph of all time.
Ignore it and enjoy a truthful account of where we are as a country and why. Dark comedy is always based on horrible truths, and this work is a masterpiece (of course, there was such an unbelievable amount of source material).
The allegory of the self destruction of the Democratic party is beautifully written, but unfortunately it's wasted on closed ears. The characters in the movie have a little more than six months -- we have a little more than ten months until the maga cult controls all three branches of government and destroys our democracy forever.
The Bad Seed (1956)
Simply the best horror movie of all time
A near perfect combination of great writing, suspenseful background music and superb acting. Eileen Heckart steals the scene she's in, and Nancy Kelly is outstanding, but Patty McCormack and Henry Jones create unforgettable characters.
There is not a single minute of this movie that does not contribute to the suspense and horror. When you see the absolute crap that passes for horror movies in 2022, you realize how far they are from the kind of real horror so well exemplified by this movie. All parents will identify with and be horrified by Nancy Kelly's character and her struggle to come to terms with the bad seed.
Folk med ångest (2021)
Read the book - it's so much better
Yet another case of a screenplay not coming close to the quality of the book. Fredrick Backman's book is outstanding, and he must be sorely disappointed with this series. I understand that Tom Hanks is making a movie of "A Man Called Ove", and I sure hope he does a better treatment of that Backman masterpiece.
The acting in this is adequate, but I think that several of the actors were miscast. Much of Backman's delicious humor never made it to the screen, and one wonders why on earth they didn't simply do a more faithful rendering even if it meant shooting a few more episodes. Perhaps the budget for this was a victim of Netflix financial woes.
Kingpin (1996)
Three good actors wasted
On an unbellievably boring script - and Angel can't act her way out of a paper bag. You wait for something to make up for the inane stupidity and it never materializes.
The Dresser (1983)
Courtenay is magnificent
Sir Courtenay, the finest living actor, gives an absolutely stellar performance. His decision to devote most of his time to the stage is a great loss for the cinema.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Not Hitchcock and not the book!
But it was not intended to be either, and only a moron would compare it to rear window just because a neighbor looks at another through a window! To those that wanted every part of the book in the movie: get a grip on reality- you really don't want to sit through a 10 hour movie! Yes, there could have been a bit more about the horrible stay in the car with the bodies, but the editor decided that it wasn't needed to maintain the dramatic pace FOR THE MOVIE. Superb performances throughout, led by Amy Adam's who is second only to Meryl Streep among living actresses.
The Crazies (2010)
Mind numbingly stupid
And excruciatingly boring.
Tim Olyphant: how much did they pay you to stoop tis low??
