Dopesick (2021)
Nothng but the whole painstaking trutth
The series itself is extremely well acted, filmed, directed and edited. Very fine actors, and he story can't be any more dramatic and shocking. Get ready for the heartbreaking truth, spot-on and touching.
This mini-series could well be called a acted documentary and shows us in detail how the pharmaceutical industry has been (and still is) working for decades. Pushing dokters and hospitals to prescribe their addictive drugs (not medicines) using misleading marketing, false studies, outrageous marketing tricks and widespread bribery until the highest level of politics and law-enforcement. They knew exactly what they were doing, not interested in the health of the patients, but only in the number of zero's in their bank account.
Up in the Air (2009)
Interesting subject, but unfinished
Too many loose ends, personages that end up hanging in the air, unfinished storylines. And George Clooney does not convince. Interesting subject, could have been a great movie. Movie itself stays up in the air, and never lands :-)
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
new peak for star trek
Season 2 is one of the best seasons I;ve seen, and i've seen them all
Arrival (2016)
Visual and intellectual Masterpiece
It's excactly the kind of movie like 2001 a space odessy: or you get it, or you don't. You will love the movie, or hate it. 2001 had the same reviews: masterpiece or bored-to-death. For me it is in the line of Kubrick and Tarkowski, a deep emotional experience wich triggers al kinds of new thoughts an and images. Love it
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
A dark evil violent movie full of hate and nightmares
Does not honor Batman nor Superman, nor mankind. There is so much wrong about this movie I don't now here to begin. What kind of sick mind comes up with this kind of story? This is the first movie in 55 years that really made me angry that I saw it. It is bad enough that it is only build upon nightmares and dark dreams. The movie makes you feel the whole world is full of hatred. The traumas of Bruce and Clark are maximized for effect only. Batman hates superman. An employee of Bruce injured by the previous Superman-Zod fight hates Superman so much he suicides and bombs the hearings in the Senate chamber. The people hate superman. Luthor hates Batman. Batman is a frustrated maniac. Even Alfred and Bruce almost fight one another. Superwoman turned her back on mankind for 100 years. And the daily planet seems like a bad place to be, with a Perry full of anger and frustration. It is more a kind of horror movie than a batman or superman story. Characters and story so far as they are present, are only exploited to display maximum violence, destruction and hate to create anxiety. It seems that the makers even despise or hate the viewers. Why all the darkness? Why put so much frustration into one movie? I don't understand somebody wants to make a movie like this! It is a pity I saw this. Why let one Superhero die, and the other one almost desintegrate in one movie! I wished I never had seen it, or turned it off halfway. Unless you like maximum hatred and horror movies I advise you not to see this movie. See Man off steel, that one at least honours Superman and does have a story and character building.
Elephant (2003)
Cool cinema, disgusting subject, no point
SPOILERS!
The shots, the framing, and the way the film is constructed (overlapping timelines) is brilliant. The subject is intriguing.
But why make a beautiful styled movie about a disgusting subject like this, and give some vague stereotype clues as for reasons? It really bothers me. There is really no point in making a movie about such a subject in this way.
Or you make a beautiful styled movie, or you give us the harsh reality with no gimmicks, or you make a inside analysis with all the inns and outs. Not some mix of this all. It is so "objective", that it will only strengthen people in the opinions or prejudices which they already had.
So what is the point of making this movie? I really ask myself.
Los amantes del Círculo Polar (1998)
One of Medem's masterpieces (again)
For people who do not like Medems work, it will be hard to watch and boring. If you liked any of his other films you will love it. Otherwise you will have to sit and be patient to let Medem touch you. Everyone will recognize some parts his own falling in love, or his relationship with his parents. Medem describes all this in a poetic and heartbreaking way, edited in multiple viewpoints. If you can open up yourself on these subjects, this film will make you think over your own life, love and parents. It is also nice to see that this film fits exactly between "Tierra" and "Sex and Lucia", Medems other masterpieces made before and after this movie. Absolutely great stuff.
