Vampires (1998)
Absolutely a movie of it's time.
....that is a compilation of all the dumb and annoying things about 90's movies. Dumb one liners. The weakest "Alpha" leading man. All the characters having no character. The script is weak. The movie has no momentum. I fell asleep twice. Here's a clue something will always be s**t; when the name of the director/producer/ author is bigger than the name of the movie/show/book, it will always be s**t. Just like this movie. I wish it was so bad it's good but no, it's just s**t.
The Sentinel (1977)
Creepy movie but $400 for that amazing NYC apartment? Come on.
This movie is actually not bad with only one major sticking point. It has pretty good acting and the background music fits (I find that 70's movies often have annoying background music). There are some real bizarre Stanley Kubrick esque scenes. Which really gave the movie potential. The only thing that threw me out of the movie instead being fully engrossed was the fact she was living in a 4 story building, in a great neighborhood, 2 floor loft with oak wood, fully furnished, for only $400 IN NYC. Every time she was in the apartment I could not stop thinking about how stupid that was. Even for the 70s that was too good. With that said I still enjoyed this movie.
The Boondock Saints (1999)
Talent put to waste
This is a movie perfect for 13 year old Catholic boys. It's slowmo, jump cuts and extremely sophomoric writing is perfect for immature personalities. It's very obvious that the writer/director was inspired by 90's bang bang shoot em' ups John Woo crap. It's strange to know that this was a sought-after movie to be in for great actors back then. 2 stars only because of the talent. Otherwise, it would have got nothing.
Secrets of the Dead: Lost Ships of Rome (2010)
Extremely fascinating treasure hunt.
But, what happened at the end? What were the bricks? Did they ever go back to find out what they were? I've looked everywhere for the answers. I've got to find out what they were. They don't even say it at the website of Aurora or National Geographic. My kingdom for a horse, I'm so intrigued as to what they were.
In Bruges (2008)
Good dark comedy with a mini series feel.
This was a good dark comedy; could've have been great. The casting was on point...except for the girl. She was 2 dimensional and not fully actualized. She was a moot point in the movie and could've been played without any words being spoken at all and still would have come across the same way. The dwarf didn't go too gimmicky like movies usually portray them. However, the other characters were preformed beautifully. The writing was excellent sometimes almost tipping into cheesy. However, the acting brought it back from tipping over. It starts off a little too slow but slowly rolls into a more interesting film. The only flaw in the movie is that the rhythm feels more like a mini series more so than a movie.
Holy Motors (2012)
Art house wishy washy.
This film is for art house film lovers. It's the ugly...very ugly step child of Synecdoche, New York. I found it hard not to fast forward this film. The plot was drenched in modern french existentialism. The only good thing about this movie is Monsieur Oscar face. I felt nothing for anyone in this film. It did not evoke emotion from me and did not make me want to keep on watching it after 10 minutes, although I did. Eva Mendes could have been replaced with a mannequin and no one would have been the wiser. Kylie Minogue seemed to have accidentally walk into the wrong movie. Giving this film a four was stretching my conscience but I did like the cinematography.
