Bama Rush (2023)
Should be entitled "Alopecia and Me"
Documentary filmmaking 101: the filmmaker ought never answered themselves into the documentary. This is a painful, awkward outsider's attempt to explore sorority life at Bama after reading a New York Times article and watching the TikTok craze related to it. She finds four girls who aren't really sorority types and we think we're following their journey. She can't get any real access to the houses or active members and then - very uncomfortably - makes a movie about herself and her struggles with alopecia!! Wha?!?! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, such a weird, aimless, uncomfortable film!
Queenmaker: The Making of an It Girl (2023)
What the heck was that?!
This film doesn't know what it is. Would have loved to have watched a film about NY socialites, etc. But this devolved fast into a story about a former fact checker intern who is now a trans prostitute and has delusions that he was somehow part of that world. Separately - could have been 2 different interesting documentaries but the bridge between the two didn't ever show up.

The Real Friends of WeHo (2023)
Hopes dashed -
I had high hopes for this - I love some of the cast members. But - holy cow - this show is sooooooooo boring. Could have been so much better. :-(
Next time the inventors of reality television may want to take a page from Bravo's book to mage thus reality show more interesting. I'm only continuing to type at this point because I need an additional number of characters in order for my review to be accepted. She was so boring. I'm boring myself even writing this review. If you're reading this, you can stop here because I'm just going to keep typing until I have enough for this to go further, or someone else doesn't waste their money buying the season like I did.
Insecure (2016)
1st 2 seasons 9 stars / 3rd season 6 stars
Love everything about Issa Rae! Such a talented actress and writer and social satirist! Binge watched the first two seasons on HBO and thoroughly enjoyed, struggled a bit with season 3 - not as funny and too much Molly. The Molly character is tough for me - I find the actress wholly unconvincing in that role and am aware the whole time she's "acting" so it's distracting. All the other characters are so well written and well cast. And the minor characters are often hilarious characatures, such as the neighbor who's gang affiliation has him replacing c's with b's, and the bleeding heart white liberal non-profit director, who is completely blind to her own organizations dysfunction and hypocrisy. The Kelly character is the unsung hero of the show - HILARIOUS and just does not care what anyone thinks. We need more Kelly!
